Looks like my car uses about 1/2qt of oil every 4,000 miles. I'll have to double check it, but it appears that is how much it uses on average. I'm running Mobil 1 0w-20. Car sat for a day, brought it up to operating temperature, shut it down for about 10 minutes and checked it. Engine was still cool. My Toyota used 1qt every 3k miles.
Both were manual transmissions.

I'm a bit confused. I just drove about 10 miles. Redlined it a bit. Let the car sit for 20 minutes. Oil was on the full mark. So maybe the first time the oil wasn't that warm yet and it was taking it's time drainning back into the oil pan??

I know 8,868 too many, and you have 10,506.

So which is the true reading?

My '95 Accord gets different oil readings all the time. The way I get consistent readings is to park in the same spot in my driveway facing the same direction. I only check if the car has been sitting overnight, at least 10 hours.

Even though my driveway isn't perfectly level, as long as I do it this way, each reading is consistent.

If I've run the car in the last few hours, the reading will range from 1 quart low to full, depending on what mood my car's in that day.

LOL...same here. Strange. Never had a car that was that difficult to check the oil.

I think the level is still full. I'll have to recheck it later in the week. Right now the car is at the in-laws. I'm putting some miles on the Focus.

The usual, let car sit for a few minutes. Ain't no big thang. Just a pain.

I find that when I check it when its hot. I don't get an accurate reading. I keep my car oil full when cold. never had a problem overfilling this way.
