I can attest to this, blew five D-series myself. Some had ported oil pumps. Some were reving above stock revlimit. One was abused unknown to me had damaged main bearings and I was pushing it too hard during a street tune. My first semi built block blew with the old German Castrol 0w30 from 1999 that other people had problems with.
So now the Honda sits in the garage most of the time. I have spare cranks and a few blocks to build up just to support driving this thing.
I learned that the poor cooling system designe can't properly the fourth cylinder so it overheats the rod squeezing out the oil film. The oil stays up in the head too long leading to oil starvation. I was able to sucessfully run these engines a quart overfilled with no perceived issues. I installed an oil cooler, oversized radiator, tried running classic hot rod oil, but belgium castrol should be ok.
I think that the majority of todays multigrade oils don't protect the older D-series properly or oil system designe.

have been using 0W oil in every car since then with no problems.
since its now pretty cheap at walmart and costco
havent owned any more d series tho.
