I am planning a summer-long trip next summer, that will likely put 10k miles or so on my Toyota Tacoma 4Cyl 4WD. The manual calls for 0w20. I think I can go that long on a Mobil 1 Filter, but the lowest viscosity Mobil-1 Oil with EP is 5w20. Since I'll be going north instead of south, I'd prefer to stick with 0w20. Do I have any options (other than getting an oil change during the trip) other than Amsoil SS? I am not opposed to it, but I want to consider others, too. Thanks.

I've had used oil analysis on several oils. The more highway miles you drive the longer ANY oil will last. I personally use amsoil signature 0w20 but have friends that use amsoil xl and seen there uoa at 12000 miles and still be good. They do mainly highway miles. If your driving is more highway than short trips then mobil one is perfectly fine. My choice would be Pennzoil platinum between the two. However I personally use Amsoil but over the counter would be Pennzoil. Kendall full synthetic is another good choice which I've used

All 0W-20 oils have mostly syn basestocks. If you check the UOA section here, most seem capable of 10K and certainly would be in long trip situations. Use any 0W-20 and rest well.

+1 thats what i am putting in my Accord ( 5-30 tho ) for winter trip. highway isnt that damanding unless your car is completly full and you speed on highway. I dont really think buying something like amsoil makes sense because there is no deals , no one really carries it. Walmart sells Mobil1 EP for 28ish everyday.Amsoil Sig would cost twice as much .

For warranty purposes, he probably shouldn't go further than 10K miles without changing the oil. I don't think it's that big a deal. Map out about where you might hit maybe 8-9K miles, and find a place that will do it that might fit into the schedule. A lot of dealers have quick service and I'm guessing some will have specials around $40 with 0W-20. I noticed several Honda dealers that did, but I'm not sure of Toyota dealers.

M1 AFE 0W-20 should be up to the task since it seems that you are doing mostly highway miles. I have AFE in my FX4 currently and below is a UOA at 10K with a TBN remaining of 2.2. I am nearing 15K and will do another UOA to see if it can go further or if it is all done. I would run the AFE without hesitation.

I believe Castrol Extended Performance (god bottle, previously Edge Titanium/FST) is available in 0w20. It should be good for 15k. BUT, since you're still under warranty, you might not want to exceed beyond the factory OCI. Are you still under warranty?

M1 AFE has been the most proven 0w20 on BITOG. I would not have any hesitations using any major 0w20. I really like the add pack of Edge FST as tommygunn mentioned.

Look at the mileage on both Fords. I use M1 0-20 and do 10K OCIs without a problem. In fact, just today I changed oil in the Fusion. I also use MC filters which hold up very well. Remember the EP has a 15K warranty, but the rest of the M1 line including 0-20 has a 10K warranty. 10K for these oils is a snap for most conditions.

Most newer 4 cyl Toyota engines specify 10K OCI under normal conditions. Highway miles are very easy on engines unless you are towing. Toyota 0w20 is also a good choice, cheap for an OEM oil, along with M1, PP, or any other name brand.

Go with TGMO 0w20 for the oil. Fram Ultra, Tough Guard, Mobil 1 are all top notch filters and will go 10K miles.

M1 oil filter + TGMO 0w20 = Pure bliss grin You could always add some Lubegard Bio tech to if you wanted. TGMO can do the 10k OCI with no issues, Lubegard can extend that by 30%, they claim...

What does that really mean though? It's been noted that it would be extremely difficult to prove anything. I mean - what do you do? Maybe provide a UOA that the oil has a TBN of zero after 10K miles and maybe they send a coupon for 5 quarts of M1? There's one case where someone's engine sludged up on regular uses of Mobil bulk oil at a dealer, and Mobil duked it out with the carmaker, which didn't want to admit that the VDC was abnormally hard on the oil.

I'd go with Amsoil Signature Series 0w-20. Great oil -- though, a bit pricy -- and it can certainly make it the 10k. You can buy it online at their website. It's a little thicker than most 0w-20s which will make for nice protection in the summer

You can go with Amsoil SS or XL 0-20. Let me know and I can get you connected to the Preferred Customer (PC) prices, which are a lot lower than some guys here seem to think. Plus delivered to your door is easy to find and super convenient. Amsoil ASM 0W-20 $7.75/qt Amsoil XLZ 0W-20 $5.60/qt
