0W Synthetic Oil Comparison ?

In what order would you rate the leading 0w20 and 0w30 synthetic oils (PP , Quaker State Ultimate Durability , M1, etc. ) in terms of being at the thicker / thinner end or range in their respective weight classes ?

My first choice for all around performance and price would be Idemitsu 0W20. I have only used the SM version.

It was quiet, car started easily in -25 deg C, and had a very quiet valve train on very cold days, and I still can't surpass it's fuel economy with a 5W20 for a very regular driving routine.

It can be had at Mazda for $6.50 a litre.

Really, this was the only 0W20 I have run, and I do believe the science behind 0W20's do produce a noticeably improved performance over 5w20 conventional.

My second choice would be Pennzoil Platinum 0W20.

I am not a big Mobil fan, mainly because of their horribly performing SM days, with people commenting "the engine is still breaking in...".

If I was forced to use a Mobil product it would be 0W20 Advanced Fuel Economy.

I decided not to try Toyota 0W20 as it is a mixed bag. Some people get a very loud valve train after using it, so I am skipping it.

I don't bother with Castrol products at all, I don't really like their add packs and their prices aren't that great.

PP for 0w20, runs quiet and smooth and does an excellent job at keeping things clean. Dont know what to recommend for 0w30, not Mobil for sure. Its made our vans engine loud and ticky, just not impressed with that oil.

Mobil 1 0w20 has performed great for my engine and others I know as well. It will keep your engine quite and very clean and very long lasting.

I should state that a relatively easy to find 0W oil comparison - I have only seen PP and M1 with perhaps Quaker State Ultimate Durability now being available in 0W as well ? ...I suppose these are also Dexos 1 rated which would be a plus ?

I have Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w-20 in the buick regal seriesII. 175k on clock. And yes this oil is dexos1 approved for use with gm vehicles w/ olm.

From what I read on the charts that have been posted here, of the major brands, PP & Quaker State Ultimate Durability appear to have the thinner viscosity and Valvoline Syn has the thicker. But they are all pretty close.

Amsoil 0w30 is on the thicker end iirc.

I think AFE is as thin as it comes off the shelf although some oem oils may be thinner.
