0w-20 Formulation

There are many 5w-xx conventional oils. I don't know any 0w-xx conventional oils. It would be pretty impressive to get a Group I/II/II+ basestock to preform as a multi-grade 0w-xx oil. Pennzoil makes a 0w-20 in platinum that is supposedly Group III. It might have a small portion of IV in it, but I would guess most are group III.

As G-Man says, 0W-20 oils can be blended from Group III base oils, which work very well with pour point depressants, so the formula can reach the cold pumping and cranking specifications. Honda, Toyota, and Castrol Edge 0W-20 oils are all Group III - I know because I had Dyson Analysis test them in the VOA section. It's a safe bet Pennzoil Platinum is Group III, too. I don't know about what addguy says, but it's entirely possible.

It is impressive that Castrol can produce a 0W-20 with such a high VI without use of Group IV basestock.
Might have to use this oil...I am using Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 in a Mercedes M272 so maybe the Castrol Edge 0W-20 would be better.

Where I work we just got several pallets of Honda oil in (Conoco stuff apparently) and the 0w-20 says it is a synthetic blend. I'm curious what base stocks are used in that.
