My si currently has 11,000 miles. After getting the factory fill out i had Mobil 1 in for 5,000 miles with about 2 quarts of make up oil. Now im currently using PP as i heard it was better not only for burning but used oil analysis. I also had the hope that the motor was just breaking in and would stop burning as much. The PP hasn't been doing much better and has burned almost a quart in the last 2,300 miles. So now im wondering what i should try next. I don't have much knowledge about oil but was thinking about trying either GC 0w30 or mobil 1 0w-40. Any advice on these or other easily obtained oils would be great. I do drive my car pretty hard so i realize there will be consumption ive just never had a car go through nearly this much.

2 qts in 5k miles is too much. Take it in under warranty and complain.
Most auto manufacturers have set guidelines for oil consumption. 1 qt/1,000 miles is pretty common from what I understand. I would call a Honda dealer and ask what that limit is before you make any appointments.
Have you noticed any trends with the consumption? Does it use more oil on cold startups, or with prolonged highway driving? That's important in determining the cause of the consumption.
I'm still one of the guys that believes in breaking in an engine, so if it was driven hard 100% of the time when it was a new engine, (IMO) that could be the cause of the consumption. Honda engines, especially the newer ones, are not known for excessive oil usage.

The K series engines Burn ALOT of oil

GC 0-30 is a thick 30 weight so that can be couse less burn off.
I wouldnt go to the x-40 weights on a New honda.

ASL here,15k miles. On my second run of it. No consumption on first fill, 10k-15k. Previous run of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 (5k-10k)needed 4 ounces makeup.
PP is developing a reputation for consumption even in vechiles that have not previously consumed any noticeable amopunts of oil. In applications that typicaly use oil like most Honda Vtec engines,Saturns and toyota's 1.8 in the Carolla the oil consumption with PP is usualy close to double. I think Mobil 1 0W40 would be a good place to start. You might also try Mobil 1 10W30 HM and Mobil 1 10W40 HM or Mobil 1 5W40. RTS5W40 is also good for slowing down consuption!
I drive an '03 RSX Type S broken in per the manual. I also have oil burning and found that a switch to GC 0w30 helped. Still burns, but not as much. I add a litre about every 3,000 km, and a little more often if I'm autocrossing (lots of 6,000+ rpm). From all my reading and research, it sounds like its part of the design of the K20 engine. I guess I'd rather have some burning at 8,000 rpm and know the pistons are being sufficiently lubricated.

I recently aquired a 2004 Civic LX (non-VTEC) with about 93,000 miles and it barely uses any oil. I just finished up my 2nd 4,000 mile Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 oil change and there must have been about 1/2 quart oil consumption. The oil filter was spotless and oil looked very clean.
There's an old saying that Honda's only break in after 100,000 miles and run better with time (and care). Just drive the car lightly until you reach the 10,000 mile point before you drive it like the typical SI owner.

hey thanks guys for all the info. I just realized i left out that the M1 i used was 5w30 and the pp was also 5w30.
From most of the reading i've done there isn't much chance of a dealer taking me seriously unless, as someone stated above, my consumption was near 1 quart per 1,000 miles. Its a pretty common problem on the si and RSX type s forums(both use the same k-series motor) with little advice on solutions.
I did break it in by the manual and am pretty "good" to my motor. I always let it idle a little when i turn it on and don't drive it hard till well after it has warmed up. After that though i tend to enjoy vtec... which may be part of my problem

I have an H22A4 motor in my prelude which is notorios for burning oil. I have tested GC 0w30 and Amsoil ASL 5w30 and Amsoil ASL 5w30 works best.
I have next to no consumption now (when I did the tbelt I did get my seals replaced and the crank seal was leaking a bit). I'm at 2000km on my oil change and no top ups required yet.

Nearly every single one of those burned-out engines on ClubRSX was run on Mobil 1 and was run low. Mobil 1 30 weight is a bad oil for that engine, and I never say that. Go with the synthetic plan you have with Mobil 1 0w-40 or GC or even better, try conventional oil. Synthetic is not necessary and usually burns faster in light 30 weights. I'd consider (drum roll) Havoline or Pennzoil as well as MaxLife in ascending order of how well it will abate the consumption. I don't think 1q/1000 miles is a problem unless you let it run low or ignore proper warm-up. I'd run 500:1 2-Cycle oil in the gas too. I do it in my new Honda, you might not want to.
If the next synthetic OC doesn't improve consumption try Castrol GTX for 2 oci. I'm using it in my 160,000 mi daily driver and after 3000 mi level is still on the full line.
