07 Accord Filter

I stopped in at Napa today to pick up a filter for my new accord. I was surprised to see how small the filter was (part # 91356). I took a look on the WIX site and I noticed that the filter part # is 1356. Are these the same filters? As well how do you guys figure out what an appropriate plus size filter is.
One other thing... On the napa filter I got is says Wix Gastonia, NC but on some of the others which were the same part number and suppose to be the same filter said something like Afinia, Gastonia, NC. Is the second one a Wix filter?
 
Just remember:

Size does not matter.

Use what the factory says. They know what works.

Plus, *if* you have to use your warranty, less possible problems not using what they stated to use.

The Napa Gold filter is the same as Wix 1356. I've got the same filter on my 07 civic right now. I've gone back and forth about whether to use that filter or the Honda OEM one since the civic calls for a filter change every other oil change (which is about 12,000 miles for me). Sometimes I feel like I should be using the OEM one but it's made by Honeywell (Fram) and I'd think the Wix would be able to hold up to the same use. Other people might have more informed opinions.

Does your 07 Civic use the A02 Honda (Fram) OEM? If so, you could safely use an A01, and those are much better than the A02 Fram filters. I know someone that works at a Honda dealership that could hook you up for a discount if you're interested.
 
I didn't get the gold I got the Nascar Selectwhich is this one here. How does it stack up to the gold? I was trying to find specs on each but I can't find anything. The Napa site has a lot of flash but not much information. Any help would be much appreciated.

A01 is the Filtech filter, right? AFAIK the A01 and A02 applications are the same, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure if my local dealership has A01s, I was under the impression they were no longer made. At any rate my oil and filter buying practices haven't included ordering anything ahead of time as of yet (I'm lazy). I'm not sure there's much point seeking out the A01s when Wix filters are readily available. Do you disagree?

Wow, that is pretty unhelpful. Seems like the site only gives in depth info about the Gold filters. The box does say Wix on it, though?

Welcome to the world of oil filters. Stats and extra info are hard to come by with certain manufacturers.
 
I called Napa today and talked to someone who seemed pretty knowledgeable. From what he told me the differnce between the Silver. Select and the gold is just the media. The silver and the Select has the same media type the Select just has more pleats. The Gold has a completely different type of media that is synthetic which allows it to better trap and hold particles.

I still like the A01's. I've had great luck using them in my Honda engine. Insolubles came back at .2, lower than the .3 I had from the Supertech filter previous, and the A01 was run twice as long. But Napa filters are good also, I use them on two of the four vehicles I help maintain. Great price (proselect filters) and great quality. But for Hondas, I love using the A01. It's made by Filtech (a subsidiary of Toyo Roki, the OEM supplier for Honda oil filters in Japan, along with their air filters & HAMP filters).
 
oem filters are not as bad as their reputation. The only thing that might loose apeal about them is the cardboard end. The rest of the filter is prety well made.

Do they still make the A01s? or these are the old stock?

have you had any insolubles reading on the A02?

No, they no longer make the A01's but you can still find them from time to time. Never tried the A02, because of the bad rep Honeywell (Fram) filters get.

So what is a good oversized filter for 7th Gen Accord (2003-2007)?
7th gen accord takes 4.5 quarts. Can I get a filter with additional 0.5 quart capacity to make it even 5 quarts?
 
3593/7317 are about it for Honda filters.
You can likely dump the full 5 quarts in and not worry.
There's generally room for error in the crankcase.
I use the full 5 qt all the time and it's only slightly over the 'full' mark.
 
3593/7317 are the Fram numbers, but there are several filter brands that use the Fram system for numbering.
Others cross reference from those numbers.
