The car has about 74,250 miles on it. I used Kendall Liquid Titanium syn blend. I topped it off with O'Reilly's full synthetic. I still plan on waiting until it's been 6,ooo miles to change it. Any thoughts or ideas about what's going on? I haven't decided on what oil I'm going to use next. I've thought about DuraBlend, or Pennzoil Gold. Maybe a HM blend like MaxLife?

I assume you've had the vehicle for a while and know that it hasn't exhibited the same behavior all its life? I wish my 07 Civic with 60k miles on it were burning that little right now!

Whats up with all the problems on these new Civics? Seems Honda was bulletproof up thrugh and including 2005. I was in a 2005 Civic EX once, as a passenger.. Man, that was a sweet little car, i wont front. I like it better than the 2002 Civic.. and there were some "BBW" (Heavy yet petite and shapely) Passengers in it. That car held up WELL!

I'm going to assume the obvious and that is that you have no leaks. With that said, maybe your valve stem seals are bad. I've heard great things about MaxLife and reduced oil consumption. Also, I know that Pennzoil stopped my oil consumption on a vehicle with much higher mileage than yours. The thing is sometimes when you change brands, you might have oil consumption (drop a quart or so) for that first OCI. In my instance, I didn't have that initial oil consumption problem when I changed brands.

You changed TO Pennzoil? PYB? From Maxlife? I learn something new every day!

I've had the car for about 10 months now. I've changed the oil 3 times since I got it. The 1st time with PYB. No consumption, but changed it after 3,000 miles. The 2nd time with O'Reilly full syn. No consumption even after 6,000 miles! I'm a pretty aggressive driver, and it's gonna be getting cold soon. I can't decide between a syn blend, HM syn blend, or just a full syn. Thanks!

I've heard very few complaints about burning oil in a fairly new Civic. The only complaints were on the Si using certain oils. My EX is an 07 and I haven't burned one drop. Sounds like if it were a mechanical problem, you should've taken it to a dealer under power train warranty.

Stop switching oils like underwear!! Stick with PYB if it didn't consume and you'll be all set.

I never burned a drop of oil when I had my Spec5 and it never went down on the dipstick. I used 5w20 in the winter and 5w30 in the summer. Bought it new in 06, sold with 30K because I am too big for a Spec5. (6'7", 250ish lbs)

But it was a good car while I had it. Pretty reliable 32MPG on the highway. High tank of 36MPG on a 4700 mile road trip in the state of Montana with the cruise set on 85.

No, I didn't change from MaxLife to PYB, I was just making suggestions. I changed to PP from M1.

I'm inclined to agree with this. PYB is a good oil (plenty of UOAs on this site show that) and it sounds like it was working for you.

Thanks everyone! I'll probably just use the new GF-5 PYB, unless I can find the new Pennzoil Gold. Now I just have to decide on a filter. I'm thinking about trying a NAPA Nascar Select.
