Actually, the LeSabre would be a better choice. It's just slightly bigger and has the same engine. 2000-2005 were all the same; except 2005 got the 3800 Series III with the all aluminium upper and lower intake manifold.

If anyone has ever seen a 2000-2005 LeSabre in black, they're gorgeous.

I noticed an ad for a new '07 Lacrosse CSX for $19,999 in my Sunday paper. I don't know about the fine print,but that sounds like a good deal to me.

If I was buying an '07, it'd be the Lucerne with the 3800.

An update: I'm negotiating with another dealer for an '03 Buick Park Avenue, the predecessor to the Lucerne but with the same (normally-aspirated) 3.8 engine. I mention this here to point out that the contrast in dealer experience between the LaCrosse sellers -- call them "L" -- and the PA sellers, "P", was like night and day. My instincts, and yours, were right: to walk away from L and their methods.

I mentioned the L characters to the guy at P, without naming names, and my salesman knew exactly who I meant. "We've had two customers in here this week with similar stories."

Some dealers haven't gotten the memo: It ain't 1947, and you can't just make the cars and call up the next guy on the list any more. You have to work with the customer to make a sale.

Why not name names, what possible interest do you have in protecting their identities? If they've got shady business practices you should let it be known.

Darned if I know why I did that. Maybe I've read too many secret-agent novels.

The LaCrosse guys were Mossy, an old-time dealership which apparently, has gone downhill since the retirement of Mossy Sr. The people who've treated me so well, and from whom I'm buying the Buick PA, are at Crown Buick in Metairie.

Mossy would have been perfectly located for service; I drive past them every day in my commute, they promise to shuttle you a reasonable distance to work, etc. Their service department may not be as blinkered as the sales staff, and I'll try them, once, for warranty work. Anything non-warranty will go to my long-time independent mechanic.

From the description that sounds like an ex-rental car. Buick is probably selling almost as many into rental fleets as they are at retail, so it wouldn't be a surprise.
