Just wondering what everyone is running in their 4T45-E? What brand of Dex VI? Anyone running Amsoil?

If I read correctly Dex VI was developed for GM's new at the time 6-speed auto. Would any changes have been made to the other trannys or would the backwards compatibility of Dex VI eliminate the need for any?

To my knowledge Amsoil does not have a product that meets DEXRON-VI requirements and, if that is the case, therefore has no license or right to make DEXRON-VI performance claims.

For the 4T45-E the recommended fluid is DEXRON-VI

Whitewolf,

I understand your position on this topic and I respect it. Thank you for your input. However, if the fact is that people are using Amsoil in Dex III or VI aplications without problems then I consider it an option. I will admit that my previous programing and coments from you and others on this topic had me only looking for a Dex VI to use. But if I am considering Amsoil products in the engine and running them past the manufacturers recomendations to make them cost effective why would I only stick to the manufacturers recomendations for the tranny. I have no waranty on either of my vehicles so that is not a factor. It may not be the spec'd fluid but if it does the job and is cost effective it is an option for me.

After some more in depth cost analysis I'm pretty sure I won't be springing for Amsoil. Plus one or two oil changes a year is no fun!

So it looks like it's going to be Dex VI for the G6 Whitewolf!

Is the Dex spec tight enough that any of the major brands are good? No room for anything to really be much better than another? Valvoline says theirs is Full Synthetic but don't list any specs?

The spec is so tight that you can take your pick. The synthetic thing comes down to how you define synthetic.

As far as I've read, there's nothing special with Dexron VI other than it's rated for "long life" for the GM 'sealed for life' transmissions. The 4T45E contains nothing new school to warrant a special ATF.
