I am late posting this latest UOA for my Vibe. I am not too concerned re the dilution as this Vibe gets mostly short trips; it is winter and this actual sample was done after only a 5 minute trip to my mechanic in frigid temperatures (approx 5 degrees F)

The GC was replaced with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and I will send in a sample to check for continued fule dilution....sometime late spring.

excellent wear except for the fuel dilution. the 5 mile drive oil change didn't help. this could lead to false positives. I got almost 12k on mobil 1 in my 06 vibe

Excellent report. Next analysis you need to really heat up the thing bigtime to see if you have dilution. I'm guessing there is no problem, but 3.5% is very high.

For sure for sure I will bring it up to operating temp. via a hwy before draining.

During the weekday in the winter this Vibe is driven less than 2 miles to work, then more often than not driven back home 8 hours later. It wouldn't get up to operating temp either way.

On the weekend it gets better treatment.

On going dilution over the entire interval wouldn't yield such good wear #s...would it?

I'm seen coolant leaks yield excellent wear. what does that prove?

Eddie, that is just not true. What you don't see in this UOA, since it is not measured, are TAN, Oxidation and Nitration. High levels of aromatics from fuel dilution will speed up the oxidation process, increase the acidity level, and speed up the formation of Combustion Chamber and valve deposits. Without having the indicators of deposit formation being measured, you do not know what the long term impact of this high level of fuel dilution is.

Fuel dilution often precedes deposit formation, which often precedes major engine issues.

That is dependent on the metalurgy and design of the engine.

To confirm/deny the dilution I will be sure to run the Vibe to operating temperature and sample the oil hot..sometime this spring.

You need to get it warm and burn the excess fuel out of the oil every now and then. Ya know... maybe.. wind her out? :-)

I personally would stick with GC after seeing those excellent results with that much fuel in the oil.

Dont tease me! It is only a 1.8L Vibe

I agree. I think I have enough GC for another 3 oil changes for the Vibe; but most recently I used up my last bit of 4 bottles of PP.

Only sample that EVER showed fuel dilution when I had my 05 Matrix (same engine) was the one and only time I used GC......fwiw

I'm just saying

Have to ask here...

Why did I get some slaps for wanting to use GC in my 2.3L Mazda3, yet it seems to work well in a smaller displacement four in this case?

Maybe demonstrates my point that all these worries about weight are just unfounded??

I have used GC in my 1zzfe engine for at least 3 OCIs and the wear #s were good each time. The first time using GC I got a detailed Dyson report; it was very favourable.

Because your engine calls for a 20-weight oil; and a very, very thick 30-weight oil probably isn't the best 'fit' for it. The Vibe engine (older ones, at least) cal for a 30-weight oil; so using a 'thick' 30-weight isn't as much of a 'move away' from what it is designed to be run on!

states 5w30 on oil cap of 2003 > 2008 VIBE , MATRIX , and COROLLA . As for the '09 VIBE , MATRIX , COROLLA , and SCION XD the oil cap states 5w-20 .
