I posted I had noise on cold starts for about ten minutes. I took it to Honda and they said the best place to start is a valve adjustment(it has 100k).

After the valve adjustment the noise on cold mornings is actually worse. They said valves were in need of adjustment and I have slight piston slap but it is nothing to worry about, it is fairly common on the vtech.

Should I be worried?

Before diagnosing any cold engine noise that has to do with pistons i perform a thorough top engine cleaning with GM top engine cleaner or Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner.
Excessive carbon can cause a lot of cold engine noise.

GM is known for piston slap. I had a GMC pickup with piston slap. I bought it at 80,000 miles and sold it at 160,000 miles. the new owner has mentioned to me many times about how good the motor runs. not sure on the Hondas if it is as common but the GM products seem to run fine , even with the added noise.

I'd try 2oz of TC-W3 every tank to keep the carbon in control.

Also seals the rings better as a UCL.

TC-W3 outboard 2-stroke ashless oil apparently cleans carbon buildup really well by softening hard deposits so they can get burned off easier. 2T oil have a lot of detergents in them to keep 2T engines from gumming up and seizing.

It also helps prevent cylinder scuffing.

I use it now in my Honda Fit and love how it improves the idle and engine vibration, and increases mpg as a small benefit.

TC-W3 is widely discussed on this board.

If you look back the response to the thread you had, there were two different noises I posted. The one that is the same as my friend's car is piston slap. A few of the people with the problem have posted the videos on youtube and have confirmed by mechanics that it's piston slap.

My friend had his oil changed with Valvoline Nextgen and that seems to have quieted it a bit ... but it's still not completely gone.

He's had the car for 5K miles and there's no noticeable oil consumption at 80k-85k miles.

I believe I called it out as piston slap in the last thread, as well.

Our 2003 does it like crazy when it's cold. I've heard numerous other Honda V6's with the exact same piston slap.

It's been doing it for 3 years, and it is getting worse slowly, but the car still consumes no oil, UOA's have come up clean, and performance seems unchanged.

When it's warm, it's silent.
