Hi guys
I am in ottawa, and my local CT and chinamart only seems to carry fram filters. And the mazda3 uses a cartrige filter, no can no by pass, less materials... yet it costs me $10 per filter.....

Talk about crazy. Does anybody know of other options for this 2.3 engine.

10bux a pop is crazy, unless I can get away with changing it every other OCI.

thanks guys.

Maybe that's because Fram cartridge filters are farmed out to foreign manufacturers who make quality cartridge filters for many other filter companies.???

I'd use the Fram cartridge filters without hesitation.

If you don't want to buy from Fram on moral grounds, go to site sponsor fleet filter.com and order from them. I did for my 2.3L Mazda 6 and have no regrets.
Just make sure you spend over $125 to get the best deal and have them ship by the U.S. Postal Service, not UPS. UPS will nail you with brokerage fees.

It will cost more than 'mericans pay, but you'll get great oil filters for about $7-8.00 CDN, with all the extra charges and taxes added in.

My Ecotec uses a cartridge filter.

The factory filter came from France.
The Fram I used to replace it (the first time) came from the UK.
I had several Purolaters from Thailand.
I also had a few Super Tech filters from Bulgaria.
And in some of the places I worked, the Wix and Pennzoil filters came from Korea.

So I would say to get used to cartridge filters from outside the USA and Canada.

I think the real reason Fram cartridge filters are good quality is because there is no place to hide poorly built filter media and attachments to the filter media that fall apart.

Another good option if you're in Canada is RockAuto they ship to Canada usually with duty and taxes included so there are no surprises. I've often found that I can pay the shipping and duty and still be better off than at my local store.

Unfortunately it's tough to not by Fram in Canada.
