just got a 2004 F150 with the 5.4, 3valve. I'm suspecting the noise at hot idle to be the cam phasers. Ford has a TSB and it's very vague as to their definition of if/when the phasers should be changed due to the noise. The TSB says the noise does not degrade performance or longevity. I did buy a Ford ESP for engine/trans. and assume that the cam phasers would be covered however if it really doesn't affect the engine I can live with it.

Anybody have any info on this issue, is it just a bothersome noise or does it imply eventual failure of the part or degradation of performance?

thanks.

-called 4 separate dealerships, all 4 said cam phasers are not covered under Ford used vehicle warranty.
-called ford canada, was told to go by dealer and ask. when told the outcome there was silence, followed by a, 'that's all I can tell you.'
-went to the original purchasing dealer, with TSB in hand, and, lo and behold, the cam phasers are indeed covered under warranty. will take it on oil change time and get it diagnosed/fixed/denied/they all do that/ whatever happens.

this is my first domestic vehicle, I grew up on honda's, nissan's, toyota's. If this is the level of service I can expect from the manufacturer, this will be my last domestic vehicle. from my point of view, Ford deserves to go bankrupt.

The massive hierarchy and beaurocracy is terrible.
But these parts should be warranteed with no problem.
They may not be a bad, however.
