Piston slap is usually on start up and goes away when the pistons heat up and expand.
The ones I've heard are quite momentarily after start, then the knocking begins, to last perhaps another 30 seconds.
Yeah, that's when the pistons began to expand and the noise goes away. The 4.8 we are discussing here starts to tick after the engine warms up, usually an exhaust manifold problem.
