03' Camry Which filter is best?

I have a new 2003 2.4L 4 cyl. Camry in Houston TX. Just made the mistake of changing the oil for the first time using to thick Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 with a Mobil 1 filter.

I Plan on going to Mobil 1, 5w30 next, but what filter should I go with? Will the Shell Rotella T 5w-40 hurt the 4 cyl. till the next change? How soon should I get this combination out of the motor?

Are you serious? I doubt ANY harm is going to come to your Toyota engine with a synthetic 5W-40 oil. I've been tempted to try either the Chevron Supreme Synthetic or the Havoline Synthetic in the same viscosity range in my Sonata's V-6. We both live in areas known for heat (you, more so) so you're getting more film strength in hot and/or high speed driving, yet at very low temperatures the 5W-40 flows like a 5 weight. If I'm not mistaken, that Rotella is formulated for heavy diesels so it has a robust detergent/dispersant package - just the ticket to fight sludge, and a high base number to neutralize acid buildup! I'd leave it in for the normal duration of your preferred oil change intervals. You didn't screw up.

So far Ken4 has had some of the best used oil analysis with heavy oils 15W50,5W40...... in his Camry in South East Asia. I have temps hitting 27F tonight and I just put Redline 5W40 in my 2003 Camry.

I have been useing Toyota Filter number 90915-YZZA1. I cut one open tonight and it is just like the one on this site used on the lexus. It has a bypass valve, adv, and has the same fiberglass matt and natural fiber matting in a according bellow style arranged in six petals. IF the price of $4.95 is too much you can also buy a filter from AC/Delco and STP and Tech2000.

John: How would you rank that 90915-YZZA1 filter on flow and efficency? And have you by chance cut open a yzza2 filter used in the Celica GT-S, Matrix XR-S, and upcoming Lotus Elise? I was wondering the material was the same fancy and "good" crystal synthetic stuff found in the Denso Japan Toyota filters or the common materil from the Toyota USA filters. I believe all the yzza2 filters I have seen were made in the USA, but I have not cut them open.

There are lots of 4 cyl camryson the road.
Wish there was a list of what filter numbers in the new style dense filter fit which 1990 up camry.

JB.....Where did you find the japanese YZZA1's? I have a U.S. model which uses that other strange folded paper element.

I would prefer the Pureone in oversize or the oem toyota filter. Can't lose with either one.

Here is my take on it. THe factory one had a plastic center tube that also served as a former for the matting"crystal". The american made one has a steel center tube and it does not act a former for the petrals. They use less of the same material as compared to the factory unit. THe factory filter folds the material back and forth over it's self so the density is higher.

The american made denso is a very close copy. It does appear to contain less material. With a very slight difference in how the material is folded. THe material is the same though. The American made unit has a stapmed spring steel bypass spring at the far end of the can. The adv was made from some type of black ruber like compound nitrile,viton,butyl etc....

I think I paid some where between $3.99 and $4.95 for them from Russell Toyota.

To date I have never had any start up noise or anything else that would indicate oil flow problems.
