I recently changed the oil on our 02 Toyota Avalon and filled it with 5 qts of Castrol Edge. However, I have noticed that when I check the dipstick (which, by the way the oil level never drops), the oil level is about 0.25 of an inch above the full mark. The car has the 1mz-fe v-6 that the owner's manual states holds 5 qts. Does this seem like a dipstick error?

Did you change the oil filter ? If not, then the oil in filter is about 1/4 to 1/2 quarts make the reading on dipstick higher than full.

My uncle had a similar problem on his 2000 tundra. Had to add 3/4 qt more oil than my truck took to get to the full mark. We compared oil sticks, same length but the min and max were differant. He got a new stick from toyota, and problem solved. No idea why they were differant, mix up at the factory maybe????
