I got the 2003 Sierra with the same 4L60E Transmission with 200,000+ miles.

I pull a 3,000 pound trailer A LOT & back it up a steep driveway, COLD, a lot.

Had a couple fills of Amsoil ATF in it for 150,000 miles.

Not one single issue. Highly Recommend the Amsoil ATF.

Let's hope their gear lube is as robust. Switching over both diffs this spring (got a great deal on 5 quarts).

They are; I have them in my truck.

Plus, I got 5 more in the garage to put in soon.

Trying to verify which Amsoil ATF is the right one for my truck

Just take an ATF off the DEXRON-VI approved fluid list that way you know that you have a legitimate product for the application?

The code "ATF" has been used in our transmissions for over a Decade.

The new one called out now is similar, but is a lighter viscosity and may be "slightly" more fuel efficient.

Both will work, but be cautious of the newer lighter viscosity, especially in heavy tow operations. That's all.

Yes, all 3 will work.

Amsoil changed the designation to the ATL from ATF. Their ATF is the SAME viscosity that your truck came with.

The ATL is thinner than what our trucks came with.

Amsoil makes a great gear oil. Second only to redline.

Op. If this is the first transmission service I suggest Maxlife. Do a few drain and fills to clean out the crud, driving a couple thousand miles in between drain and fills.
I have 3 of these trucks. 2 99s and a c3. 2 have a 5.3, the c3 has a 6.0 and a tougher transmission.
Once you get everything washed out then find the transmission oil your going to stick with. Otherwise you spend big bucks on that stuff only for it to get contaminated quickly and requires draining.
The more I abuse these trucks the more I'm impressed with just how tough they are. The first gen 5.3/6.0 nay have piston slap but that's the only flaw,if you can call it one.
They are easily as durable as the 350 they replaced. They get better mileage. The spin up quicker and in my experience require nothing more than periodic regular maintenance.
Anyways happy driving. Great trucks. Not complicated and very durable.

Redline D4 or D6 are excellent choices.
RoyalPurple also has a good synthetic ATF.
Any of the 5 common Amsoil ATFs are great to use...ATF, ATL, OTL, OTF, and ATD.

I still and always will recommend the Valvoline Dexron VI. I Put it in the 06 Trailblazer.100% synthetic as well. Nice quick firm upshifts and downshifts. Great stuff.

You can do what's mentioned above, but your best Transmission Fluid will be the Amsoil ATF.

If price doesn't matter you could do the Redline/Amsoil as they are great. But if you want something cheaper the Valvoline Dex 6 is $40.36 on Amazon for 6 quarts.

One more question

How many quarts of transmission fluid does the standard pan hold vs. the deep pan?

How do you know if your truck came with a deep pan?

Is there a code number in the glove compartment?

Wife paid 655.00 dollars back in 2002 to get the following with the package:

Trailering Special Equipment 310.00
Includes:

Trailer Hitch Platform
8 Wire Trailer Harness
Transmission Oil Cooler

Locking Differential-Rear axle $295.00
Rear Axle- 3.73 Ratio $50.00

Electrical Convenience Package- No charge
P255/70R16 ALS BW Tires- No charge
6,200 LB GVW Rating-No charge
California Ultra Low Emissions- No charge
Heavy Duty Suspension- No charge

Its been a good truck, 254,000 miles, same engine

I'm thinking that all the LT Silverados have these options
