The car idles just fine, but the gas pedal needs quite a bit of effort to move it off idle, and then it's too much gas.

it's like it's sticking, and after the initial idle to 'vroom' position it's fine. But it always acts like this.

We just got the vehicle with 83k miles on it...

Any ideas? I just cleaned out the throttle body so far...

I believe this vehicle uses a cable to connect the pedal to the throttle, its probably sticking. There are a couple of options first being just change it and second get a motorcycle cable lubricator, which is a very inexpensive device that attaches to the end of the cable and has a hole on the rubber to accept the wand of a spay can.Use motorcycle cable lube for this job.

My Taurus did this. You need to open the throttle plate a smidgen more with the throttle stop screw.

there was a factory recall or TSB on that ,our took about a hour in the shop no charge.

Any details on this TSB? My Wife's 2003 Taurus has always been like that. VERY sensitive off idle and hard to modulate.

just reponded to a letter from the company to bring it in to replace throttle something or other ,wifes car. However I always hated the feel of the pedal, slight catch then- boom you'er off in a squeel of rubber, after the visit to the dealer totaly different and satisfactory.
