I just got a focus that I am fixing up, the car calls for 5-20, can i use 5-30 chevron since it is close to a 20 weight in its stead? The reason I ask is I am sitting on close to 10 cases of the chevron oil.

I would have no problem with a 'thin' 5w30 like Chevron especially in California where it never gets too cold.

Costco Sales, for 20.99 a case, originally had 10 boxes since you can buy 5 per coupon. Used a relatives coupon and my coupon lol.

Thanks for the replies.

Especially so for California climates.

My 2000 model Focus with the 2.0L Zetec was 5w30 also on the cap.

PO must have replaced the cap with one that says 5-20, since my haynes manual states 30 for it too, cool. thanks guys.

Yep, but it was back-specified for models before that. The '98 Escort ZX2 I maintain with the 2.0 says you can use 5W-20 per the TSB. Using 5w30 and 5W-20 interchangeably would work fine. Once I run out of 5W-20 I'll probably switch the 'cort back to 5w30 because it's easier to stock just one grade for me.

That would be an excellent oil for your Focus, and with the money you've saved you can probably afford a proper chair now.

A lot of technically savvy people didn't agree with Ford calling for 5w20 instead of 5w30 on mostly identical engines to those of the previous model year. I think it had more to do with the automaker wanting to improve their fleet CAFE gas mileage numbers slightly than anything else.
