01 Chevy Silverado 100K servicing

Okay, I’m working on my list of items for this major servicing-100,000 mile. I got 88,000 on it, I tend to get things done early, also want it done before summer vacation.

Flush Radiator (I got the original Dex-cool in it and it’s still good)
New plugs and wires (Do I need to replace the cap? Anything else regarding the “tune up and I missing?)
Transmission and rear-end servicing. Last time I had the transmission flushed. This time I will drop the pan. This is a 2wd
Fuel Filter.
Power steering flush
Am I missing anything? I flushed the brake fluid about 15K ago.

I did the Avalanche back in December. This was my list for the 100,000 mile service:

- Engine oil and filter
- Air filter
- Fuel filter
- Cabin air filter
- A/T filter kit and gasket
- ATF cooler line flush
- Front/rear differential fluid
- Transfer case fluid
- Brake fluid
- Power steering fluid
- Coolant flush
- PCV valve
- Spark plugs
- Thermostat
- Radiator cap
- Radiator hoses (upper and lower)
- Oxygen sensors
- Fan belt

V-8 I assume? There's no distributor cap. Wires are probably a good idea, and plugs if you've never changed them.

Inspect the A/C belt and tensioner, at the bottom of the engine. Also check the big belt--marks on the tensioner show belt stretch. You could probably just replace both belts while you're doing the work.

Definitely flush coolant, and maybe change the thermostat. Inspect the water pump shaft seal and gaskets closely. My seal began leaking at about 80,000. The gaskets looked deteriorated, although I'm not sure they were leaking. WP gasket leaks are apparently common.

Fuel filter is pretty easy on this one. Watch for the o-rings on the ends of the lines that go into the filter. I've changed mine twice and o-rings didn't come with the filter (NAPA). I let it sit overnight with the gas cap loose and that seemed to relieve pressure.

2001 will have a differential drain plug and a trans drain plug.

I'm curious whether yours pings like a flippin' diesel when you put your foot in it. Mine always has, and Chevy called it "normal."

My 04 does not ping at all at any throttle position. I also use 89 octane gas though, not sure if that makes any difference.

I never had the ping with my silverado. I did have a 98 Dodge Ram that had the infamous knocking and pinging, and at 40K, thanks to a lemon law lawyer, dodge bought it back at the orginial purchase price and I went next door and bought my silverado. I would have prefered one of the newer rams, but dodge apaprently wanted no more of me and just paid me up.
