60% ase mechanics say change every 3k

I wonder what those 98% think about the OLM (oil life monitor), which as I understand it, usually allows at least a 5,000 mile OCI? Jan Richter

The general ( Cadillac ) promotes Z-MAX for carbon

All oil will "soak into metal" because the oil molecules are so much smaller than the asperities on the metal surface. If the oil gets deeper than the surface...one has a crack. Well, the zMAX website says: "Simply pour zMAX into your fuel system (12oz.), your engine (12oz.), and...

    Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus questions

"In 2004, Marathon Petroleum Co. discovered that it had sold gasoline to thousands of motorists in the Louisville, Ky., market that had high levels of elemental sulfur, causing damage to the gasoline sensors. It paid out about $500 per vehicle to motorists whose fuel-sending units were affected...

    Air Filters From Another Prospective

I would guess that they thought the ash would be "caught" when it passes through the oil. Many people think that the incoming air bubbles through the oil bath. The incoming air actually just passes through the oily mesh. The mesh draws oil up, through capillary action, from the oil bath below...

    Militec-1

Here's a quote from www.xadoshop.com: "Its unique qualities make it good auto maintenance, and when needed, it can virtually perform an engine rebuild." It's the Bitogers' Holy Grail - a mechanic in a bottle! Jan Richter [ January 09, 2006, 07:28 AM: Message edited by: Jan Richter ]

    MerconV for Ford Windstar

brianl703 said: I bought my 1992 Aerostar (A4LD transmission) with about 130,000 miles on the odometer. The fluid was dark brown. It was speced for Mercon. At the time Mercon V had just been introduced and as it was described as being better than Mercon, and backwardly compatible with Mercon, I...

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

5 quarts. Ford calls it the 3.0 Vulcan engine. The earlier ones like mine are specified for 5W30 oil, but the later ones (1994? on) were re-speced for 5W20 and the only difference is these later engines have roller rockers, and maybe a slightly smaller sump capacity. Some say the change to 5W20...

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

After I drained the Amsoil I filled with Castrol for the Auto-Rx treatment. Up until this UOA this rebuilt engine had seen only this grade of Amsoil for 100,000 miles. I did use Castrol GTX for the break-in but that was a long time ago. Jan

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

As long as possible. I'll have a UOA done after 10,000 miles and take it from there. If Mobil 1 EP doesn't work I may try Amsoil again if the Thickening Problem is solved. This is my first UOA and at $30 each it costs almost as much a DIY oil change. I want to settle on just one oil unless...

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

I don't track the mpg closely so if there was a difference it can't have been more than 2 mpg. When I changed the old Amsoil for petroleum Castrol GTX 5W30 (for the Auto-Rx treatment) I did notice a slight increase in power, even before adding the Auto-Rx. I've since finished the cleaning phase...

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

Pablo, I changed the Mobil 1 oil filter at about 10,000 miles. I opened it up and there were no deposits in the pleats. The oil was in use for about 9 months. The excessive thickening is the reason I'm going to try Mobil 1 EP.

    Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL), 21,000 miles, !992 Ford Aerostar 3.0

1992 Ford Aerostar 3.0 automatic. 112,000 miles on engine. Oil Use Interval: 21,000 miles (mainly highway – less than 1 year) Oil: Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 (SL) Make-up oil added: 3.5 qts. Blackstone's comments: We think 21,000 miles on an oil is too long for this engine to handle. Please note...

Opinions on this guys??? The UltraFilter!!!

A micron is one millionth of a meter and a nanometer is one billionth of a meter. The size of molecules ranges from about 0.1 nanometer for simple molecules up to about 50 nanometers for complicated biological macromolecules such as proteins and enzymes. In comparison, a human hair is 150000 nm...

    Brief History of ATFs

In the 1960’s AT became available as an option for the British Mini, together with a 998 cc engine instead of the standard 848 cc. The engine, AT and final drive all shared the same sump, and used SAE 30 engine oil. The automatic changing could be over-ridden by selecting a gear from 1-2-3-4 on...

    Automatic Transmission Life

318,000 miles on an A4LD in a 1992 3.0 Aerostar. When I bought the van about 200,000 miles ago the ATF was black. I changed the filter and cleaned the pan - there was a huge mound of magnetic sludge on the magnet. Then every few days I siphoned out 2 quarts of fluid through the dipstick tube...
