    Alfa Romeo 4C: ACEA C3?

I, too, have an Alfa 4C which is going to need an oil change in a couple of months. The owner's manual (2015 FCA US LLC, third edition) requires an SAE 5W-40 full-synthetic engine oil that is API certified and meets the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-12991. There is nothing stated...

    UOA 2007 John Deere 2305 57 hrs

Bandito, I have an '07 JD 2305 myself. While your buddy is checking the OM for data on the oil change interval, have him check the viscosity data as well. He'll find that JD recommends only two grades of HDEO based on ambient temperatures: 5W-30 and 10W-30. Of course, he can use anything he...

    P4e vs UP

Yesterday I ordered a case of PP Euro 5W-40 from Amazon for $51.20 for a six-pack. Free shipping. The oil has Chrysler approval MS 12991 (among many others) which is required for my new Alfa. The price seems reasonable.

    Delo

Red91, I think the Delo, or indeed, any major brand 5W-40 HDEO would be fine in your hi-mileage Dakota. I use Delo over the others simply because I really like Chevron as a company and as a product and own a few shares in Chevron. You also might consider a high-mileage 5W-30 PCMO.

    15w 40 to thick?

jim78, I have a couple of JD compact tractors with Yanmar engines. The bigger one (4610) requires 15W-40 or SAE 30 for my climactic conditions. It gets the former. The smaller tractor (2305) requires 5W-30 or 10W-30 and gets the latter. All recommendations are for HDEOs, of course. You can't...

    Considering going to 5W-40 synthetic

If you are not the engine builder--then what did the builder recommend? I am guessing 15W-40. In my view, the only reason to change to a synthetic 5W-40 would be to compensate for cold starts in cold weather. I am assuming, looking at your oil psi readings, that the engine does not run hot, so...

    Delo

I bought a case of Delo 400 LE in 10W-30 a couple of years ago and still have some. Had to get it at the Chevron distributor as a special order.

DIY oil change for Maserati 2002 Coupe.

I take it you are using a UFI brand oil filter. I'll bet there's a Wix or Baldwin that would fit. If you give me the UFI filter number I'll see if I can match it up.

    Oil/filter recommendation

James, If the truck has a manual transmission, one of these days it's not going to start and you will be puzzled why. In order to start it, you must depress the clutch pedal. On the rear of the pedal is a cheap-### plastic prong that strikes a switch which enables the starter. I have only...

Winter oil weight for 94 Alfa Romeo 164LS

Had an '88 Alfa Romeo Milano which had essentially the same 3-liter SOHC engine as your 164. The owner's manual called for 10W-50, which was unobtainable in the military PX, so I used Mobil 1 15W-50 year-round. The car spent three winters in Germany and always started on the coldest days. So I...

Alfa 2.0 15w50 stock,20w50 seems like the new norm

jayg, As usual, Caterham is on target re the oil pressure. To complicate matters, though, the oil senders tend to deteriorate over time and this results in lower than actual readings. They are cheap enough so that you can put in a new one and be sure of your oil pressure. In your car I believe...

Alfa 2.0 15w50 stock,20w50 seems like the new norm

jayg, I've owned six Alfas and a few other Italian autos, all models in the 1967 to 1988 years. I bought a new 74 spider and a new 88 Milano. Both specked 10W-50. The old four-bangers usually had two two-barreled Webers or Dellortos or Spica mechanical fuel injection. If out of adjustment, fuel...

Anyone have experience with tankless water heaters

When we first built our house we installed a propane-fueled Bosch tankless water heater as our only source of hot water. It proved troublesome and from time to time provided a cold shower for my wife, who was not amused. We upgraded the system so that we have water heated in panels on the roof...

    Snake in my pond

Identify the snake. If venomous, kill it. If in doubt, kill it. If sure it's harmless, run it off. A long-handled hoe with a sharp blade will do the job if you don't want to shoot it.

    Mobil 1 0W20 Gas Mileage

I have run M1, Valvoline, and PP 0W-20 in my wife's 2010 Honda Insight and have noticed no difference in fuel efficiency. She gets about 48 mpg in mixed driving regardless of the oil.

    Mark Webber retiring

I put Webber at the top of the heap of F1 drivers who haven't won a driver's title. That said, he's getting long in the tooth and this is a good time for him to bow out of F1 honorably and continue racing in a new field where he will doubtless be very competitive. Webber has always driven a...

    2010 Nissan Frontier V6 4.0 VQ40DE OCI

I have a 2006 Frontier 4X4 Crew-cab with under 35K miles. The gas mileage has always been poor at about 17 mpg. I chalk it up to short trips, truck weight, and poor aerodynamics thanks to a cow catcher and pipe rack. I use pretty much whatever oil is on hand when I do the annual oil...

    Rotella 15w40, 2,650 miles in an '87 Ferrari 328

Caterham, Thank you for finding the old UOA and thread. I had thought them long gone. I would have no problem using the newer M1 0W-40 formulation in the Ferrari 328. However, I'm trying to rationalize my oil inventory to support the vehicles listed below as well as a couple of diesel tractors...

    Rotella 15w40, 2,650 miles in an '87 Ferrari 328

Aloha, Ted, I'm guessing at least one of those old UOAs showing that Mobil 1 0W-40 sheared badly in a 328 was mine. You are correct that your owner's manual specifies a 10W-50 motor oil. In mid-1988 Ferrari issued a service bulletin recommending a change to 10W-40 for Europe and 10W-40...
