    Wix 57055 leaking at seam

I have always liked Wix and never had a problem (Mann Hummel buyout looks to have changed things?). Today when I checked under the Subaru Forester's hood there was oil all around the filter. Filter was changed about 500 miles ago. It was on tight, but I could still loosen by hand. There is a...

Looks a little ugly but held together.

    PF48E cut open

Hi this is off my work truck - 2010 Chevy 1500 5.3 - 148k miles. I have been wanting to cut a filter open on this one for a while, but I usually have our mechanic to changes and never remember to save the filter. kind of rough, but no tears. Pleats are collapsed and flattened in 2 spots where...

Wix 51372 changed to thread end bypass

I just put on a new Wix 51372 filter on the explorer. I see they changed back to white and pleasantly surprised they now have a thread end bypass. Design looks the same otherwise. Looks like an improvement for Mann Hummel.

Do Subaru Factory Filters Anti Drainback Valves?

Just changed the oil on my new Forester for the first time last weekend at 2700 miles. I warmed up the car for 10 minutes, cooled down for another 10 and pulled the drain plug, then filter - I hate figuring out plastic cover clips and stuck plugs and tight filters on the first changes...

    Delco PF48E low oil pressure

Sorry for the long post. I have a 2010 Silverado 5.3 with Afm that I drive for work. For a while now the oil pressure has been getting lower. Used to be around 40 psi hot idle and get lower to 30 psi after a few thousand miles on the oil. Been getting lower as the miles go on - at 123k now...

    '10 Chevy 5.3 V8, Cenex Maxtron 5W30, 9.6k mi OCI

I switched to synthetic Maxtron 5w30 from Autogold 5w30 since I knew I was going to run a longer interval this time. Lots of highway miles, but also lots of construction dust and a fair amount of towing in this interval. Used a Wix oil filter. The air filter was Wix also and had about 20 k on...

    New Motorcraft??

I saw this ad for new Motorcraft lines. Wonder what it will mean? I tried to go further into the page under parts but the page is all messed up. So much for high hopes..... http://www.fordparts.com/Motorcraft.aspx?bannerid=9673871|2633937|137323330|71992001|310064908

Why does Fram have less media?

Fram gets lots of good marks here lately. I haven't used one in 20 years, but am thinking about buying a toughguard next time if it is on sale. I have used Wix or Motorcraft and been happy with them until all the talk about the 820S problems. I never had a problem with an OCOD in the 90's...

    Cut 3 Motorcraft Filters

So been hearing and seeing all the bad about Motorcraft filters and decided to check some myself. I cut open a used FL820S that looked good except the end glue was not attached to the steel cap on the threaded side. Then I have 2 dented filters (Rockauto rejects) that I had on the shelf and...

    10w40 as a hydraulic fluid?

Our 2 year old Terramite roller screed (concrete) at work has been foaming and puking out its oil. We have been using AW46 hydraulic oil - they even flushed out the system with it thinking it was contaminated. I read the owners manual and it says to use 10w40 SF/CC/CD motor oil. There is the...

Hitachi / John Deere Excavator Hydraulic Oil

I can't find much on the board about compatibility of new hydraulic oils on new construction equipment. The company I work for just bought a late model JD 160 and Hitachi 350 excavators (JD & Hitachi excavators are essentially the same). The new factory hydraulic oil is apparently not...

Pennzoil or Valvoline 5w20(full syn) for '99 Accord ?

If I had to choose between these two I would use Valvoline. No particular reason, I just like Valvoline better. I think they are both probably overkill since conventional 5w20's are mostly all blends.
