Had the same issue on a Toyota 2GRFE, got the engine nice and hot after a good drive then put a filter strap wrench on the housing and finally cracked the cap off. All is right with the world now.

Absolutely no issue using Fram Tough Guard and Ultra with the plastic end caps in the TG9972 and XG9972 sizes on a couple 2GR-FE's in our family. That being said, I have also used the 57047 Wix filter for the same application without issue. Doubt there are any issues if purchasing a reputable...

If it is cheaper than Valvoline Maxlife ATF, Castrol Transmax Full Synthetic ATF and Super Tech Full Synthetic LV ATF, then sure. Otherwise, any of those other three full synthetic transmission fluids will be just as good.

For cone filters, I prefer either S&B dry filters or AEM Dryflow. For daily vehicles with stock intake, I go for Beck/Arnley, which every Beck/Arnley has been a reboxed OEM Toyota Denso in my applications, or FRAM on non-Toyota applications.
