    Collinite in Canada

If anyone North of the border is interested in buying Collinite wax, check out the website for 604 Autocare Canada. The delivered price to me was about the same as if I were to buy it on Amazon and have it shipped to a US address. Now to try it out and see if it's as good as it's cracked up to be.

    CEL code '05 Subaru Impreza

So the check engine light came on and I borrowed a code scanner from a guy at work and here's what it tells me. P0420 Catalyst efficiency below threshold Freeze frame data: Fuel System 1 CL Fuel System 2 CL- Fault Calc load % 24.71 ETC ˚F 186 STFT B1% 2.34 So can someone decipher this info for...

    Blind test: pick one

OK Lets have some fun with this one. No war allowed, only friendly banter. Based on the numbers, which one would you pick? This oil will be used in a ’09 Ford 4.6 3V and will probably be changed at around 5000Mi because of warranty time limit. Relatively easy miles, almost every trip is long...

    Wix 51372 dirt holding capacity

I emailed Wix to ask about the dirt holding capacity of the 51372 (MC 820S) and the bypass valve location, as I thought I'd get some NAPA golds during the sale. Received a quick response from Bill Wickie (honest, that's his name) of Wix Canada. The bypass valve is in the base, which may or may...

    Ford Racing FL820S

Anyone have any specs on these filters? Seems like they would be a good choice for anyone wanting a premium filter and is concerned about warranty coverage with a non Ford filter. They can be found online for $12.56 shipped, which is less than M1 or K&N from my nearest Orilley's.

    Alternative to K&N sealing grease

Do you think Silicone disc brake grease or spark plug boot grease will work in place of K&N? I emailed K&N with the question and got the pre packaged response that I can use white lithium grease, just like it says on the website. Sure, I can just go the store and buy some K&N, but I've got lots...

ADBV needed if filter is vertical?

So if your oil filter points straight down, does the ADBV matter? Can the oil siphon out? I'm asking because I can get P1 filters for my '05 Subaru 4 banger non turbo ( PL14460, correct bypass setting, no ADBV ) for the same or less than OEM. The can seems pretty full when I change the oil, but...

Does published oil capacity include the filter?

So the handbook lists the oil capacity of my Subaru as 4 litres. I changed it myself for the first time this morning. Put a measured 4 litres in and the dipstick shows about a third litre low. Is the dipstick off or does the listed capacity not include the filter? I'm going to change the oil on...

    Who makes the Subaru OEM

Picked up a couple of oil filters at the dealer today. I asked the parts man who made them and he didn't know or wouldn't tell me. They look well built with a spiral wound metal center tube. Made in USA is all I know. Good price too at my dealer. $6.50 Canadian which is less than Wix/NAPA...

    Pure 1 for Subaru

Anyone know if there's a Pure1 air filter for an '05 Impreza RS? For some reason the Purolator website shows absolutely nothing available for my car even though I know there's an oil filter available.

    Silicone ADBV and UOA

I suppose this question could be in this forum or UOA but here it is; Could the silicone ADBV in oil filters skew the silicon readings in a UOA the way silicone gasket material can? Happy new year.

Subaru OEM filter vs the competition

Going to do my first OC myself, the dealer has done it 'til now. Anyone compared the OEM filter to the likes of Wix and Purolator? The OEM white filter is only $7.00 at the dealer which is a fair bit lower than the good aftermarket ones in my area.

    PYB or Castrol GTX

Canadian Wal Marts have these oils on sale this week for a cheap ( for Canada ) $8.88 / 4 litre jug. Any preferences among the cognoscente for using in a Subaru non turbo 4 cyl? Canadian PYB is Shell, don't know about Castrol.

    FL820S replacements and bypass valves

There's lots of discussion about the filtering media for these Ford filters but no one discusses the design/location of the bypass valve. The Motorcraft filter has the valve designed to bypass oil straight out without washing over the dirty media. The only articles I have seen regarding this are...

Motomaster Formula 1 synthetic and Ford spec

Canadian Tire has Formula 1 Full Synthetic on sale for $15.99 / 4.4 litre jug so off I went to stock up on some. When I checked the jug at the store I noticed there is no indication of it meeting Ford Spec WSS-M2C930. It has the API mark and says "Meets industry requirements" Anyone know if this...
