Not a good idea. Unless you wash and oil them properly it’s not an effective or efficient way to go. Just do the maintenance on time and as needed. Air filter is about every 30 k on a MB.

I would run what is called for in OEM. And, I would not wait until computer tells me to do it. About 5 k miles is good rule of thumb, along with a good filter.

He should still be under 5/60 powertrain warranty. Just fix it. If he is regularly towing 9k that is not a good diet for any 150/1500 of any make.

Get those first two OCF gratis at Toyota. Stick with OEM manual recommendations-I suspect there may be a bit of wiggle room for the viscosity. Otherwise, key are frequent OCF in conjunction with your other preventative maintenance. 5K miles for a daily driver isn’t too much. The car will thank you.
