    Current longest lasting wax?

Good stuff in can or bottle. Easy to apply and easy to remove. Twice a year all she needs.

    High Mileage accomplishment cheat?

Why would you? Cost? Desire to continually conduct repair/replacement? Be afraid to take the vehicle on a road trip? I can understand “driving the wheels off” a newly purchased car that has the options you want and is what you want to be in. Own three vehicles each with well over 120k and...

I’m thinking I’d let the shop keep digging. They sound honest and competent.

Oil filter change at 10k miles (every other change) ?

Defaulting to a bad analogy - it’s like taking a good long shower then putting on your same old stinky underwear. Just don’t. Not doing it is false economy.

Service dept uses unapproved oil. Looking for advice (M-Benz GLC 300)

Blackstone Labs tested and provided baseline markers along with the actual measured. I’m not a chemE so I’m at a loss to provide additional to you. Maybe a query of the various labs would be appropriate for your interest in the test protocol.

Service dept uses unapproved oil. Looking for advice (M-Benz GLC 300)

I use Amalie Elixir 5W40 in my 15 E250 Bluetec (diesel). The oil is spec'd for MB 229.51 and I have had no problems at all. 5k oil change is my baseline and I have taken it up to almost 9k with subsequent lab analysis showing about 40% of additive package remains with no measurable metals or...

Service dept uses unapproved oil. Looking for advice (M-Benz GLC 300)

15 K is well past any manufacturer's change interval. Get out your owner's manual and study it. As far as "Fram oil", any brand that attains your manufacturer's specifications (again, read the manual), is fine. I use whatever synthetic I can find on sale that attains those specs along with a...

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

Last several vehicles have had well in excess of 150 k miles, one over 250 k. I change oil with whatever fully synthetic I find on sale that meets manufacturer's specifications for the vehicle. I typically stay with a 5 k change interval as the vehicles all get driven at least 15-20 K annually...

Mercedes 2021 GLC300 engine air filter change - what a PITA

Not a good idea. Unless you wash and oil them properly it’s not an effective or efficient way to go. Just do the maintenance on time and as needed. Air filter is about every 30 k on a MB.

What weight oil would you run in a 2011 Ford F150 with 3.5 L gas eco-boost?

I would run what is called for in OEM. And, I would not wait until computer tells me to do it. About 5 k miles is good rule of thumb, along with a good filter.

New Truck - Go with Diesel or....Gas model? Ford 3.5 Turbo took a dump.

He should still be under 5/60 powertrain warranty. Just fix it. If he is regularly towing 9k that is not a good diet for any 150/1500 of any make.

New 2023 Corolla and 0W-8 oil

Get those first two OCF gratis at Toyota. Stick with OEM manual recommendations-I suspect there may be a bit of wiggle room for the viscosity. Otherwise, key are frequent OCF in conjunction with your other preventative maintenance. 5K miles for a daily driver isn’t too much. The car will thank you.

    E10 in Garden Tractor?

You can use E10 if you are burning through it. It doesn’t store well even with StaBil or Startron. I pay more and use real gas.

    Oil changes -natural gas engine

Run it 20 minutes or so each month to get it in heat cycle and spin the brushes. Natural gas as clean a burn as you can get. I’d probably go 3-5 years before changing oil if that’s all you do. If you end up at DEFCON 1 and actually operate it for emergency, I’d default to draining the oil at...
