Pic of valve cover area on Havoline

I do have a couple more pics from a different angle but don't have time to post them right now. I'm sure my engine looks like a turd to some who have better results with other oils. I was just showing what mine looked like. Wasn't even attempting to sway anyone else's opinion.I'm glad everyone...

Pic of valve cover area on Havoline

Sorry, not interested. If it already works for me I see no need in changing. I'm flattered that you asked though. I don't usually experiment unless I'm having a problem, and I'm satisfied with the way it is now.

Pic of valve cover area on Havoline

No additives at all. I have done about several analyses with Blackstone. Oil always looked good.

Pic of valve cover area on Havoline

Sorry about that. It is conventional 10W30 Havoline and I haven't used any LC or AutoRX. Just plain oil. It does use about half a quart between changes, but I just don't top it off.

Pic of valve cover area on Havoline

It's a '97 that I bought new. The plugs had over 180,000 miles on them and I replaced those also. The valve area looks pretty good to me. The block area gunk was caused by the leaking intake gasket. The 97-98 3.8's are known to have a gasket problem. I was getting 25 mpg regularly before the...

    Blackstone has moved!

Sounds just like the same run around I got a couple of times at the post office here. This one girl is so out of it. First time she refused to take the sample. When I came back later that day with the letter, all the other clerks just watched the show. The postmaster was standing by also. Now...

    Props to the Havoline crowd.....

Havoline has been my oil of choice for the last 36 years. It has never let me down and is better than ever. My trusty old GP has 305,000 miles on it all with Havoline and the analysis are always good. I use a 5000 mile change interval.

    Blackstone has moved!

It has taken me almost two weeks to get my results the last two samples and I've had to call both times. Once was told they hadn't received it, even after 10 days. Anyone else have these problems?

Battery test, did I do it right?

I'm betting a battery problem. Take it to an auto parts store and they can load test it to see if you have a week cell. Or you can buy a battery tester to check the specific gravity of each cell and usually see the difference. Could even be low on electrolyte on one or more cells. But I'd bet...

97 GP Havoline 10W30 5100 miles on oil, 300,016 on car

04SpecV, The transmission is original and the fluid has been changed once at a transmission shop at about 200,000 miles. I just use the regular Dexron in it when I need a little from time to time. I can tell no difference in it from when it was new.

And vad, you may not have been talking directly to me but you have referenced me or my situation several times.

97 GP Havoline 10W30 5100 miles on oil, 300,016 on car

Well fellas, this is my daily driver and I already get 25 mpg, have enough HP to get me in trouble with the law, don't feel the need to spend more money than necessary and am comfortable with things just the way they are. It's not broken and I don't think I need to fix it until it does and what...

97 GP Havoline 10W30 5100 miles on oil, 300,016 on car

If I can spend under $1000 and get another year out of it, then I have saved myself about 10 payments on a new one. Also less insurance and taxes. Body wise and interior, everything is still in A1 condition, so I suppose it would be worth a chance.

dimestore oil is really the best?

What difference does it make who sells it and for what price? Havoline is as good or better than any, the price just makes it even better. If you've got a problem with it, use something else. How long can you drag a chain?

went synthetic and now it burns... what have i done???

This case is an example of why I never change brands or types in midstream for no good reason. After 300,000 miles on conventional, I still don't use any and have no engine troubles. If it's not burning, leaking, smoking or making bad sounds, why change?

Oh No! This can't be happening to me!

Just what I was thinking. Probably keeps her left foot on the pedal all the time. You might consider increasing all your insurance.

    SUGGEST ONE FOR ME

I once knew a man who owned a service station and he changed his oil every 1000 miles. If it was me I'd change every 3 mo. with Havoline 5W30 conventional and sleep well at night. Surely you have bigger fish to fry.
