Who's the current main-stream favourite for 5w40 applications (high temp/shear)

I'm seeing Castrol Edge Euro 5w40 and Penzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 - are these currently the two preferred main-stream oils for this viscosity and usage?

Shell RGT just a (good) high mileage oil?

Hear me out :D After looking at a bunch of oils, trying to find an equivalent that's more easily available, i noticed some trends. Truck/SUV oil seem to have the following in common Deals with high temps better than other oil More moly more anti-oxidants Higher viscosity within their range...

What do these standards give you? (Edge Vs. Edge high mileage)

Looking at the HM version of Castrol Edge, and whilst i'm guessing it gives up some standards for whatever it uses to benefit high mileage engines, i was curious what they are. Between the two oils at 5w30, regular Edge has these specs that are missing from the HM version. ACEA A1/B1 ACEA...

Castrol Edge Vs. Edge extended performance?

I'm looking to run Edge in a gen 1 Coyote engine (F150) and wondered if anyone had any thoughts or views on that? As well as thoughts on the Extended Performance version of Edge - i don't intend to extend drain intervals with it, nor am i looking to save money, but wondered what else it might...

Available GF6 oil brands (SN P rated?)

Firstly, are all GF6 oils rated SN plus? Secondly, what common brands have their GF6 oils on the shelves at the moment? I know Mobil1 is out, but for personal reasons, i'm not considering them right now. Looking for 5w30 Gf6 oils that are out there, anyone got some recently?

High mileage oil just contains seal swellers?

Years ago, i saw this was supposed to be the case, was it true? and is it still true? Example, the manufacturers seem to consider anything over 75k miles as high mileage, any reason to use it when over that mileage?

Did RGT change from GF5 to GF6?

I couldn't see any other threads on this, but i noticed on Shell's site, that it's listed as GF6, whereas on the bottle pictures on Amazon and the original Q&A, it's a GF5 oil. Anyone know about this or further details? I'm interested in running the 5w20 for my 5.0 Coyote engine.

Claims for 5w30 not being tested at 5w20?

Now i know the most common oil is still 5w30, but so many are moving to 5w20 now, but i keep seeing the major oil brands making their claims on testing Vs. anything, but it's all based on their 5w30 (and they make sure that's noted) for things like sheer/film strength etc. Have any brands...

Can you get WSS-M2C913-D in the USA?

    Techron the best injector cleaner?

I always keep a pack of Techron in the garage, occasionally using it, however my Wife's TSX is getting an occasionally reported misfire on cylinder 1 - injector checks out electrically, and nothing else is amiss. This is the ODB2 system reporting this, the only thing i have also noticed it's a...

Is there such a thing as an underbody anti rust...

Is there such a thing as an underbody anti rust coating such as Fluid Film, but that gets a kind of skin on it, so it doesn't collect dirt etc.? I'm looking to spray underbodies on the cars where there is either rust starting, or will be, but i would like something that doesn't stay wet, whilst...

Help: Needing a good recommendation for CBR600 oil

I have run T6 5w40 in the bike, but it seems to changed changed formulation this year and there are questions over the suitability in a wet clutch bike now. It's currently running Castrol synth 10w40 (Honda's recommended viscosity) but i don't think it needs it - my commute does end up with...

Did i miss this one? (New Castrol)

http://www.bp.com/assets/bp_internet/cas...ol_EDGE_FAQ.pdf Whilst that explains something, at least from Castrol's perspective, did anyone here note it and are there any reports from the field on the new stuff? I'm wondering if i should switch to the titanium in my 350z, currently i'm using PP.

Best gear oil for Viscous differentials?

I was looking at Redline Shockproof and their normal 75w90 gear oil, i need a GL-5 based gear oil. I've read that the GL-5 spec is more suited for limited slip applications, but i wanted to know if any were particularly suited to viscous type LSD's or indeed are not suited to them? Thanks.

What do people recommend for a GL4 trans oil?

So i need to use a GL-4 transmission oil, but i'm torn as to the best available. The car is used in a moderate climate year round with 67,000 miles. What do people use/recommend, especially considering ease of selecting first when cold. Thanks.

PYB no better at sludge than any other?

A message just passed to me, PYB has no more sludge cleaning than any other mineral oil. I'm fairly certain that's incorrect, but i wanted to see what you guys knew about it, i don't do much mineral/dino oil.

Mobil1 burning slightly in 4.6l Mustang

So this is really just a shot in the dark, but has anyone ever come across M1 synth burning off in their engine? The car is a 2001 (90k miles) 4.6l V8 Mustang, you can smell it after coming to a stop and turning the engine off.

Tricky one for a sticky box....

So my current car is a 2001 V8 Mustang with manual transmission at 90k miles. Ford state that even though it's a manual, it should use Mobil 1 ATF in there. I have a very notchy shift which i really don't like, i suspect it's either been over-filled or it's just got [censored]/original oil in...

    What is going on here?!!

Forgive my somewhat brash introduction but oil and filters have been driving me nuts since i moved to the states recently. Googling around over the years and more recently, has turned up various lists and articles on good and bad oil filters (lets not even start on oils) However, having read...
