Are you for or against Data Centers?

Somewhere on the other side of the world there are people doubled over laughing at this, high-fiving their team. EVERYONE thinks *they're* the ones who see through the propaganda and the manipulation; the others are the stupid ones falling for "it", whatever "it" is.

Switched to CachyOS from Fedora, wow!

What value does Cloudfare add to the interwebs?

I thought there was an old John Wayne quote; something to the effect of "I know money can't buy happiness; but I'd rather cry in a Mercedes".

Do you sometimes randomly pick up trash?

I always do when I can; and if possible I try to make sure someone is watching me when I do it; preferably kids: I'd like to normalize the idea. Sometimes I organize neighbourhood cleanups, too, which are supported by our local Neighbourhood Watch program. Same deal: I make sure we'll all in...

With advanced tracking in newer cars will older vehicles become choice of criminals?

Tracking or no tracking, I would expect that any self-respecting criminal would choose an older vehicle anyhow, like an early '70s Charger, for example. Who wants to be a criminal in a Honda Accord? Are we rolling up to our gangland meeting in our Prius?!

Are you for or against Data Centers?

AI's reach is about as sophisticated now as a "horseless carriage" and its associated manufacturing was 100 years ago. More and more and more and more will be built to accommodate more and more and more demand. This is just the tiny tip of the iceberg; it's still awkward and cumbersome and...

California bans Kars for Kids program

There were a few expose pieces up here north of the border on this garbage; now at least the CBC is no longer playing along: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/cbc-kars4kids-ads-pulled-9.7204937

Fans ramp up when viewing live stream on YouTube, Fedora

Oh, I wish that was even reasonably effective with some legacy applications. Even NVIDIA cards needed x11 to run properly up until just about a year or two ago. I still have to use it on Debian Stable for Zoom. And RealVNC, if I am not mistaken. My screen capture app needs x11. I feel like we're...

Fans ramp up when viewing live stream on YouTube, Fedora

LOTS of applications, though, still need X11 sessions. Usually apps not native to either Gnome or KDE. I don't know about Brave. EDIT: I don't hear "Fedora" and "Stable" used together a lot!

Is this a legit MFA message?

My first and best guess is that someone correctly has your username and password. 2FA is saving the day, here.

    Googlebook, my new computer!

I would expect "quite a bit"; given that this is a major, major part of their business model, which they, and others like them, do not keep a secret.

    Googlebook, my new computer!

Looks like these innovations'd require some getting used to; from a tactile perspective like when wiggling that mouse cursor and even usage perspectives simply trying to retain the litany of AI-augmented features. I'd appreciate the Android interoperability, too, and think this could be very...

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

Agreed: Like local-only OS exploits, if someone has your ID, your SIM, is inside your house or business, you have massive problems and data is only among them.

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

I am not sure there are many of these brute force attacks that target an individual's credentials; guessing them over and over hoping that one strikes gold. Most are when a hacker, via some type of malicious software they were able to place on an enormous number of unsuspecting machines, directs...

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

Quoted and emphasized just so everyone can read it twice. The nominal inconvenience of an additional layer of security is nothing compared to what you'll go through when your bank account is drained because someone guessed (EDIT: or bought) your password.

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

2FA and MFA are terms that encapsulate a few different-but-similar methods: That "second factor" could be a phone, an email address, an app, a hardware key, etc. Just requiring evidence of "something you have, something you know", etc. mitigates so much of what a simple username/password utterly...

    Home routers targeted again/still

If an ISP supplies your router I'd strongly expect them to be responsible for its maintenance; especially if it's rented. I would have massive issues with my ISP having even read-only access to my router's configuration, much less write-capable access!

Fans ramp up when viewing live stream on YouTube, Fedora

KDE is also on Wayland according to this screenshot and I am not sure if they've sorted themselves out properly with that yet. OP maybe try logging out and at the login screen trying to select an X11 session instead of Wayland? Although Fedora may have gone Wayland-only recently. I really...

    Home routers targeted again/still

Never mind a security and privacy nightmare! And never mind a little presumptuous that one's ISP should also be in charge your internal network's setup and operational structure.

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

Conducting any transaction online is inherently very, very, very insecure so structures need to be put in place to secure data and identity. 2FA is by FAR, as of this writing, the best way to achieve this. Convenience and security often have an inverse posture. It's not "Discriminatory" because...
