Oil for 2015 Subaru Forester XT (2.0 DI Turbo)

Thanks for all your valuable comments! How ironic that this "new technology" (gasoline direct injection) causes more stress on the engine oil. Anyone know if BMW and MB have shortened their oil change intervals with the introduction of direct injection? Will probably try Pennzoil Ultra Platinum...

Oil for 2015 Subaru Forester XT (2.0 DI Turbo)

It's been a long while since I've posted here; previously I had a SAAB 9-5 AERO (I liked ACEA A3 oils like Mobil 1 0W-40 and GC for that car) and then an Acura TL (Motorcraft semi-syn worked nicely there) and then an Acura MDX (Mobil 1 EP with Honda "FILTECH" filters work nicely for 15,000...

    Mobil 1 5W-30 EP, 15436 miles, 2006 Acura MDX

FWIW I'll probably stick with 15k because it's convenient: -It's exactly twice the recommended oil change interval (as compared to conventional oil) -It's the factory recommended change interval for the oil filter

    Mobil 1 5W-30 EP, 15436 miles, 2006 Acura MDX

Not sure why the zinc is high, I did top off with a random unopened bottle of regular M1 5W-30 (not EP) at about 7,500 miles (age unknown, found it sitting on the garage shelf) Was zinc higher in older formulations? I use Shell V-Power gasoline, could this have anything to do with it? Usage...

    Mobil 1 5W-30 EP, 15436 miles, 2006 Acura MDX

This SUV has about 52,000 miles on it. Engine is spec'd for 5W-20 but I couldn't find any M1 EP in that viscosity at the time. Oil filter = M1-110 extended performance, one filter used for the entire duration. COMMENT: For an oil run more than 15,000 miles, this one looks pretty good. Universal...

    Redline 5w-20 @ 2508 miles in a 2004 Acura TL

Hi Michael, Yup that's me. Opti is short for "Optimus Prime", the name given to my TL by my fiancee because of all the gadgets it has. Those BMWs belong to family members (cousin, mom, dad, etc); my previous car was an '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero. My favorite oil for those European cars is GC but I...

    Redline 5w-20 @ 2508 miles in a 2004 Acura TL

Interesting! I have an '05 TL 6-speed and will do the first oil change this weekend (it has about 5,100 miles) I plan on using Motorcraft 5W-20 syn blend because it's relatively cheap, and it produces decent UOAs. Sticking with Honda Filtech filters. I toyed with the idea of using Redline...

    What's In AC-DELCO's "100% synthetic"

a fully synthetic oil change for $18 is highly suspicious... must be fake syn.

ever heard of Vic oil filters?

The real VIC filters are made in Japan and are pretty good (see this site) but the ones in the Philippines are counterfeit (made locally), stay away from them!

Oil for A Long, Hot Journey

Also, that Civic uses a 10,000 km oil change interval on the M1 5W-30; it's 11 years old with 130,000+ km in the Philippines, engine runs perfect!

Oil for A Long, Hot Journey

Kumusta Volts, Mobil 1 5W-30 or 10W-30 will work just fine for you... my cousin buys M1 at a good price in Ali Mall in Cubao. My '94 Civic ESi (which my cousin now has) runs great, it has been fed Mobil 1 5W-30 since new. It recently had a clutch replacement and the mechanics at the...

    SAAB oil sludge problem

The article says that pre-2002 models are affected, but the 2002 SAAB 9-3 and 9-5 (and the 2003 9-5) got semi-synth 5W-30, with a recommended interval of 10,000 (!) miles. The new-gen ('03+) 9-3SS got fully synthetic 0W-30 from the get-go and the 9-5 didn't get this oil until 2004.

New Mobil 1 Oil Web Page - EP Oils

From what I understand, SAAB Turbo 0W-30 will no longer be imported and SAAB dealers will use Mobil 1 0W-40 instead.

New Extended Drain Interval Mobil Oils

Just saw this new oil at my local Wal-mart... There, Mobil 1 5W-30 extended performance is $5.36/quart. It's SL/CF rated but has no "energy conserving" designation. Also, they had 5 quart jugs of M1 10W-30 EP for $23.88. Here's a pic of the M1 5W-30 EP 1 quart bottle:

Delvac 1/M1 5W-40 unsatisfactory in my '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero

OK, those figures might seem exaggerated and I'll admit I wasn't exactly comparing apples to oranges--city versus highway. But fuel economy did suffer, as I keep very detailed records. Allow me to clarify: With M1 0W-40 my usual "city" fuel economy is about 24-26 miles per gallon. With Delvac...

Delvac 1/M1 5W-40 unsatisfactory in my '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero

The verdict is in, Delvac 1/M1 "Truck & SUV" 5W-40 is unsatisfactory in my '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero. Seems that it's simply too thick--increased vibration at idle (especially with the AC running) and the poorest gas mileage I've ever gotten, 21 mpg over the last two months! (Compared to a record 35+...

Rust like deposits on filler cap are gone.

In my experience, using Delvac 1 5W-40 or Mobil 1 5W-40 will keep your BMW oil filler cap clean too. Our '03 330xi loves this oil...
