hello gentlemen.

since synthetic oil choices here in southeast asia is somewhat limited to a few petroleum companies, most of us here think mobil or western brands are exotic formulations too good for our econo cars.

so in the quest for a cost effective oil change i came across a well-known a large, garage chain operating about 20 branches across Manila alone. anyway, they're offering a fully synthetic oil change for about $18 including a new filter and labor charges...way cheap if u ask me.

the oil they're offering is ac-delco 5w-50 fully synthetic. now i'm pretty sure ac-delco doesn't refine their own oil. and the only syn oil i know of that offers this viscosity range is the mobil 1 supersyn 5w-50. others offer 10w-40, 5w-30, and shell, at the thickest readily available at 15w-40.

could it be that acdelco somewhow repacked mobil1 into their own bottles, or is the visco range pretty common in other parts of the world? i'm a bit excited by the thought of getting way more than my money's worth if it is mobil1 in that grey ac-delco bottle with an SG-SH API rating.

At only $18 for and oil change I would not care who made the Syn.

AC-Delco probably had some one make it for them just liek MotorCraft does.

$18 for Syn OC in the Pacific Islands sounds to good to be true.

Make sure its not counterfiet!

i sure hope it's not fake syn, mr. islandvic. although i am fairly sure that the garage service won't rip off the customers as they've got some sort of reputation as a quality shop/corporation. it's called rapide, by the way.

My stepson told me he is getting syn oil changes at WalMart for $20. He didn't know what brand of oil or filter they were using.

I sustect SE Asia is a bit like Europe in the price of tehir oil chnages.

18 is an exceedingly good deal.
AC Delco is a good company perhaps a close examination of the bottles might be in order?

Likely a group III can be had in volume ofr as little as $2.5 each whole sale.

So the price is possible especially if low labor rateds and an also good dealon filter are assumed.

Still worht checking out carefully I know Europe and SE Asia have seen some counterfeit syn oil.

Hmm but counterfeit oils wouldnt they target Mobil 1 more?

Cost of living is far below in PI than in the US. $18 "synthetic" oil change in PI..for only Philippine Pesos 1,000 is darn cheap!

5w50 for that price, it could be sourced from Castrol(HC "synthetic"/Grp III?)...quite possibly.
