You will note that the owners manual says 5W.30 can be used in cold weather.Thats what I always did as my vehicles sit out side.

Changing oil = more likely to pass emissions?

Changine the oil before the test was very important with the old carburetor equipped cars. The oil would get contaminated with gas due to over choking when cold and the fumes would be pulled into the intake via the PC valve. Was most important in the winter/spring.With a fuel injected car the gas...

Breaking the rules (oil filter and oil change interval)

With my wifes 1994 Roadmaster I change oil twice a year and change filter once a year.Runs about 3000 short trip miles a year and gets cold here in the winter.Thats 9 Qts. of oil at 59 cents a quart + one filter.Cheaper than a Jiffy lube oil change.Used the recmmended 5W-30.Car has 120,000 miles...

    Grease Needle Nozzle

On my 1995 Olds I drilled and tapped the joints and installed fittings. With my 2000 Montana I pierced the boots and injected Mobil ! grease.Refill the boots every 6000 miles or so.Figure that the small hole and full boot is better that no hole and no grease. If the boot was properly filled when...

    CD-2 lead substitute

If leaded gas is used it will leave lead deposits on the spark plugs so figure on changing plugs every 10,000 miles as we did years ago. Also will require more frequent oil changes and will form more (lead) combution chamber deposits.Las t but not least it wil "kill" your catalitic...

Saturn Vue 3.5 V6 moisture sludge

Its a normal cold weather condition. If it bothers you once a week clean it off with a paper towl.A lot cheaper than adding snake oil or taking a 3 hour drive. Spring is right around the corner....that will cure everything.

    What would you do?

I would use a different brand for each change....or let the place decide and not tell you what they put in the engine. You will never know the difference as they are all good oils. How often you change is more important than what you use.

    GM- Coolant leaks

Tony - and GM says they never had an intake leak problem. The problem was never mentioned in TSB's etc. because they didn't want to encourage warranty work. Lght!-The 3500 engine uses a completely new and improved intakes sealing system.Looks like it should last.It only took 15 years to make the...

    GM- Coolant leaks

That is true ....the the techs. beleive that its a heat related problem. And if one gasket is bad its always the one in the rear.Just go into a Pontiac/Buick dealership and ask a heavy duty mechanic. The Aztek and Buick Rhandivau(real bad spelling) and the mini-vans have frequent head gasket...

    GM- Coolant leaks

The G6 is OK-the drive train has been used and improved thru the years...same as the newer Malibu....The Vibe is excellant. Can't go wrong with either.Have her drive both and see what she likes.

    GM- Coolant leaks

Many of the 3.1-3.4 coolant leaks are external and not internal. If you see a puddle of anti-freeze on top of the area where the transmission is attached to the engine (there is a little pocket up there) you have an external leak. With a good flash light and a little searching you can see right in...

    GM- Coolant leaks

Tony,I don't know.....I sell tools at the largest Chevrolet Dealer in Wisconsin and have yet to see an Equinox engine apart...so far so good.In fact I have seen no problems with the vehicle. The transmission is also a new unit.Called the Asian Warner it was designed by Ford and GM to be used in...

    GM- Coolant leaks

Yes, its fixed on the 2006 and up.Also if you have a model that uses the newer style GM gaskets, the bolts are replaced and torqued correctly the problem is solved.Too bad that they didn't find a fix sooner. They also have some head gasket problems - not so much on the cars but on the mimi-vans...

    GM- Coolant leaks

The 3.4 in an Equniox is not the same as the other 3.4 GM engines. Its made in China and used in the Buicks that they make overthere. The intake gasket a nd manifold design has been completely changed in the 2006 US versions.
