Fram Synthetic Endurance FE8A Cut Open

Got hands on an Endurance today at my local Walmart, FE2 to be exact. The outside is not the same as the grip texture on the Ultra. To me its more of a satin finish, Im guessing its more grippy than the slippery gold on the Ultra, but maybe not as grippy as the black grip texture. Inside is...

Latest Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter as of 2023 January - Is it still a good choice?

Did they really just "disco" the wire backed media from Ultra so they could sell a slightly higher end filter? I liked the original Ultra, if Endurance is on-par for a few bux more, I can live with that.

Tire Recommendation for ES350 Grocery Getter

Ive never been thrilled with Michelins. I got Pirellis for our ES350 and cannot recommend. They might be good tires but Ive had zero luck...first "bubbled" sidewall Ive ever experienced. I think the next set will be Continentals. Ive had good luck with the DWS Extreme for my "performance"...

Checking fluid level in an automatic with no dipstick...

Yep, all those "lifetime fill, maintenance free" are similar. I'll be changing the fluid in 2 of them this spring/summer, my RAM with the ZF 8 speed has about 33K miles on it and I plan on changing that around 60K which is ZFs recommendation (Mopar says "lifetime! never needs changing!" of course)

    What solution to clean sensors?

I think I would try MAF or electrical contact spray cleaner. Not a lot, but blast the bulb end and hang the sensor upside down (like in the pic) to let it drip/dry off. As for the one in the control panel (and any others), is there some sort of small grill opening in front of it? Or maybe a...

    What solution to clean sensors?

Can you get to the wiring of them? Usually sensors like that are just thermistors, so the resistance will change based on the temperature they are reading. If you can find the expected values (Google) you can measure yours and see which (if any) are reading incorrectly. Might also be able to...

How to remove old clear bra paint protection film?

Following. I have 2 vehicles I want to remove PPF from, one has had it on for 11 years, the other almost 5. Of course, the 11 year one is BLACK so we'll see how that turns out. My biggest worry is paint coming off with the film, not so much paint matching (at least for now)

2010 Jeep lifetime unlimited warranty ...

Think like a stealership :) "If the pan has been replaced, how do I know the correct fluid and/or correct amount of fluid are inside? Those can clearly affect how the transmission works, warranty void!" The thing about a lot of extended "warranties" is that they aren't warranties, per-say...

Migrating from 80% AFUE to 90%+, vent work?

When we converted to natural gas back in 2016, I went with a Carrier Infinity system. Our original oil furnace was 90K BTU...the replacement Carrier was 64K (!) BTU. And the replacement has been FAR better at heating the house. If you go with a fully modulating heating system, it is much more...

2010 Jeep lifetime unlimited warranty ...

Ive heard Mopar had one like that, luckily the MaxCare ones are not like that. And my dealer provided a similar one ("for free") through the dealer themselves. Had to pay them for every required maintenance *(for which they had a completely different schedule than the factory ...) and *still*...

2010 Jeep lifetime unlimited warranty ...

FWIW I have MaxCare Lifetime on my 2017 RAM 1500. Had to pay for it (was not a "free promo") but I do have it. 100.00 deductible, just used it for the first time last month...fuel level sensor went kaput, but it exists in the gas tank so it wasnt a quick and easy fix. Dealer gave me a Cherokee...

    The mystery "failure"

All the padlets and hardware in place? Maybe one was vibrating? Forever ago, my parents Dodge Magnum had a recall for improperly torqued caliper mounting bolts...might be worth a check (though Im guessing they would have checked that already) Notice anything different with the brake pedal when...

Accelerator pedal stuck. Just turn off car?

Oddly enough, I believe the push-to-start systems act like the power button on an ATX computer: hold it down for a certain amount of seconds and it will "toggle" to off. Since they are momentary switches, there is no tactile on-off. Even push-to-start cars should be able to be shifted into...

    Quality oil filters

The last Ultra I bought from Walmart didnt look as pretty as they usually do. Gold paint was OK, but the grip black stuff was applied unevenly and more smooth than "grippy". Inside of filter looked OK, but Ill be looking for alternatives next time.

    Paintless Dent Repair

I watched a PDR guy, in 20 minutes, remove 4 dings from my old Infiniti, including one that was on a high body line (i.e. you could see it every time you walked by the car) I couldnt believe it, they just disappeared. Gave him a hefty tip.

I'm approaching the end of a big interior remodel

hehe my wife was doing dishes with our hoses outside for a while, during our kitchen remodel. We didnt have a subfloor for a week or two, so the kitchen was 100% off limits. I setup a laundry sink once we had a subfloor again, so at least she didnt need to be outside :) cooked outside on the...

    High Mileage 5.7 HEMI V-8's ??

Over on RAM Forum, the common thread between air suspension being troublesome is usually the fact that service techs have no idea how to actually debug the system. They just replace (expensive) parts and hope for the best. There is a computer module specifically for air suspension that techs...

I'm approaching the end of a big interior remodel

Congrats and great work! I did something similar almost 2 years ago at this point. I did everything except countertops and drywall (I have a guy that does great work and is so inexpensive, its not worth my effort!) Documented some of it in a Google album, here...

Which transmission pan/filter to service the ZF 8HP70?

Probably not, but... I know ZF recommends 60K mile complete change. Based on the amount the trans takes for a complete change (9 quarts, I think?) 6 drain/refills gets you to about 100% change (there is a spreadsheet/calculator on the web), so if you d&r every 10K miles you'll get all new-ish...

Which transmission pan/filter to service the ZF 8HP70?

If/when I do this, I will buy a new pan+filter combo, replace it the first time and from then on probably just do drain and refills every 10K miles or so. Pretty sure the bulk of any material the filter will catch will be caught before that first change, and not much will be generated...
