    2005 GMC Envoy 4.2L 30k OCI

I put a 12,000 mile interval on our Envoy with Mobil 1 back in 2005. That interval included a move from Rochester, NY to Houston, TX while towing a U-Haul trailer. I sent it off to Blackstone and it came back with an excellent report. Those engines are tough, but I guess they aren't tough...

Need Advice: driving Ultra HP Summer tires on ice!

All Season tires are fine in snow, but dedicated winter tires are awesome. I used to run all season until I bought a set of winter tires. The difference was amazing. Nothing could stop that car with those tires on.

?best motor oil to use in manual gearbox

Our MG called for motor oil in the transmission, but it is 38 years old. I put in some Redline MTL and it is shifting better than ever.

    Flushing my own brake fluid?

I use a MityVac to bleed brakes. It works just fine. I swapped out the old stuff in our 70 MGB and my old 98 Grand Prix that way. I have yet to tackle my MazdaSpeed 6 yet.

What do you do with old oil???

I don't bother with my own anti-freeze changes, so I only deal with oil and transmission fluid. Those gets taken to Jiffy Lube to be disposed of.

Have an update. The oil used was Valvoline dino 5W-20. Does that change the interpretation of the sodium levels?

    08 Mazda CX-9 3.7 L Kendall GT1 5W-20 2,770 miles

There was no "snake oil" added to the car. I do my own changes typically, but since they offered a free one, I took them up on the offer.

    08 Mazda CX-9 3.7 L Kendall GT1 5W-20 2,770 miles

I might ask for a sample of the oil they use to send in to get a baseline since Blackstone said they'd test it for free.

    08 Mazda CX-9 3.7 L Kendall GT1 5W-20 2,770 miles

I spoke earlier with the dealer. I'm taking it in Monday. I told the service manager about the coolant showing up in the UOA. He doesn't know what they can do to find a leak that only show up on a chemical analysis. I have another warranty issue to handle, so I have to go there anyways. I also...

I saw that earlier today. I was going to see what I hear from the dealer first.

    08 Mazda CX-9 3.7 L Kendall GT1 5W-20 2,770 miles

I thought I would sometimes smell anti-freeze after getting out of the car, but I never found anything under the hood. This should be an interesting call to the dealership.

    08 Mazda CX-9 3.7 L Kendall GT1 5W-20 2,770 miles

Here is the report from our six month old CX-9. The oil is the dealer installed Kendall GT1 5W-20. They offered a free first oil change, so I took advantage of it when I had it in there for warranty work. At least they used an OEM filter. The car gets about 50 miles a day of highway with some...

    Anyone have a gas fireplace?

We bought our house and it has a gas fireplace (built-in). We bought a nice log set for about $300 and once I installed it, it looked pretty sweet and realistic when burning.

    Socket Brand Preferences

I'm a home/shadetree mechanic and have found Craftsman to be the best in terms of value and durability. I've broken my 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets and a couple sockets and that's about it. I like being able to walk into a store and get a quick replacement.

    Tool Chest/Cabinet

I bought a 22 drawer, 41 inch wide Craftsman chest and cabinet combo from Sears for $630 a couple weeks ago. It's the ball bearing Griplatch version. i like it a lot. It's a heavy guy and well built.

Smoking banned INSIDE pubs and clubs.

That's one of the things I miss most since moving from NY three years ago. I like going to a bar or restaurant and not getting hit by the stench of smoke.

Would you use SG rated oil in a LS1 ?

Isn't SG from the mid-eighties or so? Is the oil new or has it been sitting around that long?

    Hurricane Ike

I'll most likely be looking into installing a transfer switch of sorts so I only have to plug the generator into that instead of running multiple power cords.
