What Viscosity of Mobil1 will Hold Up Better In Turbo Use - 10w-30 vs 0w-40 ?

I used M1 0W-40 for a while in my SAAB turbo, and it was fine, but it always sheared about 8% after 5,000 miles. Dunno if that really matters but I'd prefer the viscosity to stay relatively constant. Now I'm trying GC and I like it better... better turbo response, the engine feels smoother and...

2003 BMW 330Ci 11,000 miles on BMW HP Synthetic 5W-30

This is an incredible UOA, much better than the 5K UOA on the factory fill of the '03 330xi that I posted here

    Mobi1

Perhaps Japanese M1 10W-30 is not the same as U.S. 10W-30? Also, didn't GeorgeCLS say there are no esters in the SuperSyn formulation of Mobil 1?

Check out this oil "expert." LOL

Well, the only time my '99 Honda stunk was when my brother borrowed it and filled it with Mobil. (I always used Shell in it) I could smell it as the car accelerated up onto the Queensboro bridge--bro was riding shotgun and I asked him a bit angrily, "Did you fill this with MOBIL?" and he...

Check out this oil "expert." LOL

Out here certain brands of gas will give you a "rotten egg" smell from the exhaust, such as Mobil. Used to buy Mobil gasoline, but now use Shell exclusively...

AC Delco PF1233 discontinued? (Prizm, Corolla, Tercel)

Earlier today, I was at AutoZone, and they had a bunch of these, FWIW.

I've got ants in my pants!

You forget to take your meds again? J/K! As long as it fits, I'd use the Honda S2000 filter (made in Japan by Toyo Roki), p/n 15400-PCX-004.

    Using non-spec filter bad?

The FL-400S should be fine, it definitely uses 3/4-16 threads. This is used on some Tauruses and many Escorts. Just double-check that the gasket seals correctly, I think the original Toyota filter has a *slightly* smaller gasket diameter. I'm interested in this because my SAAB turbo uses...

Suggestions for An Oil Consuming Civic

try an auto-rx treatment--even if it doesn't slow consumption, it's definitely gonna improve performance in a 160k mile civic... also try a "hi mileage" oil like valvoline 10W-30 maxlife.

    GC 0w30 04 Dodge Dakota 4.7 3450 miles

Viscosity of 65.8 SUS is right where my VOA was for this oil. YZF's VOA showed 66.2. Looks good, and it's not a bad idea to do shorter oil change intervals while the engine is breaking in. I think once break-in is complete, you can probably take this oil up to Dodge's maximum oil change...

    GC 0w30, 6200 miles, 1995 Firebird Formula (LT1)

GREAT REPORT PATMAN! Look for a 10,000 mile GC UOA (no makeup) coming soon from my dad's 528i, probably within the next couple of weeks. Same brutal winter, city driving, no block heater, car often sits outside. Provided that the 10K report looks good, the next interval will be 15,000 miles...

    Do Europeans Use Better Oils?

Well the Europeans seem to have more stringent ratings (VW 505/503, ACEA A3/B3/B4, MB 229.3/229.5 etc) compared to our "API SL" Also, many of the European cars sold here are factory filled and serviced with synthetic, whereas very few American cars are. But then again, many of the European...

    STP v. ACDelco

Get a Champion Labs-made ACDelco. Most of the STPs use the "clicker" style bypass which doesn't seem like it would seal very well (metal on metal) whereas ACDelco uses a tradional type of bypass with a rubber-sealed valve.

Super Tech filters don't have by-pass valves?

super tech 3593a uses the "clicker" type bypass, and i don't like it. use ac delco pf1127 instead, it's almost the same filter, except that it has a conventional rubber-sealed bypass valve.

    Amsoil S2K 0W30, 5,500 Miles, Volvo S 60 R 8,000 Miles

Fuel dilution seems to be more common in the winter months; two of the cars on which I've recently done UOA showed about the same amount. Wear metals look great, especially considering this is a new engine. I'd be very comfortable going the full 7,500 mile interval recommended by Volvo...

    AC-Delco Ultraguard ?

well if your car can use the honda size upf1127 you're in luck--last time i checked, http://www.ac-direct.com/ had a bunch left.
