Saab Synthetic Blend 5W-30 with 6,000 miles

Looks great! Does this interval include your round-trip cross-country roadtrip? Looks like the 9-5 Linear (low pressure turbo) is easier on the oil, and shows lower wear metals than the Aero (high output turbo, 21 lbs of boost)

'03 Saab 9-5 Aero, 3,776 miles on "Saab synthetic 5W-30"

Looks good and I think a 5,000 mile interval is fine... What's interesting is that you have lower lead wear than my '02 Aero despite the use of thinner (non-A3) oil! Is this an automatic?

    8,000-mile results are in!

In my experience, you're getting buildup if you let the oil thicken by 20%. But for the purposes of this study, I guess we have to stick with that figure. I wouldn't want an oil to change in viscosity too much in either direction! Based on the UOAs I've seen here, I'd personally use a lower...

    conventional oil for VW 2.0

With your climate (never gets below freezing, correct?), I'd go with a good 10W-30 year 'round, something like Chevron Supreme or Pennzoil w/Purebase. And use original VW oil filters, they're probably made by a good company like Mann or Mahle.

gas mileage...hate to brag, but it's pretty good

If I'm not mistaken, the base engine is in the LX, the fuel economy leader is the HX, and the EX has the most horsepower (excluding the sporty Si) A few years ago, I drove with a friend in her Civic HX from Houston to Oklahoma City, pedal to the metal (mostly 90-110 mph) and it still returned...

Mobil 1 5W-40 "Truck & SUV Formula" spotted at Walmart on Long Island! (NY)

Looks like somebody snagged one already; yesterday there were 5 quarts on the shelf at $4.77/quart. Saw it at the Walmart in East Meadow, on Hempstead Turnpike. In the 1 quart size, they have the full collection: 0W-20, 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 10W-30, 15W-50, and now the 5W-40. In the 5 quart...

    New Goodyear tires

Dunno about those, but I've never had a set of Goodyears that I liked, and I've driven on many different types, on all sorts of cars--Mustang GT, Expedition, Civic, Corolla, Buick, Audi A4 2.8Q, you name it! Since you like 'em already, I'd strongly advise that you stay with the Avids. My...

    Does GC really exist?

    1) Is there any of the old Group III USA-made 0W-30 with the new "Outperforms" logo on the front? If not, maybe GC will be with us for a while. (Out here all the new "Outperform" bottles contain German-made oil) B) What ever happened to the lab analysis (gas chromatography) that someone...

    Mobil 1 0w-20 - 02 Honda Civic Si K20A3, 7500 miles + comparison vs M1 5w30

Right on, I agree with most of the comments here, including your own assessment that the slight decrease in fuel economy is probably due to the switch from energy-efficient tires to sticker performance rubber. My friend's '03 Corolla 5-spd has low-rolling resistance Goodyears on it, and the car...

Saab 0W 30 Turbo Oil at 10,600 Miles

Hey Greg! Wow! I forgot about Pablo's report, Amsoil 20W-50 sheared down to a 30 weight! And I'll "shriek"... I think GC and Amsoil Series 2000 (both 0W-30 oils) are just fine for a SAAB turbo! I'd love to see what a 9-5 engine would do to the SAAB 5W-30 (semi-syn/syn-blend) or the SAAB...

Saab 0W 30 Turbo Oil at 10,600 Miles

Eiron, that's a viscosity loss of only 4.6%, which is better than what happened to the 0W-40 in my engine (thinned 8% every time). I think the 15W-50 holds up better to the abuse! Don't forget that this is a 9-3SS, which uses a completely new engine from all the other SAABs. I think this one...

Redline 5W-30 no longer meets ACEA A3?

I was at a local auto parts shop and noticed on the new bottles (blue label) that the Redline 5W-30 is no longer A3 rated, but rather, A5. Same with the 10W-30. HT/HS visc too low? They had a couple of bottles of the old stuff (red label) and it stated "A3-96". Looks like if I try this stuff...
