THE ULTIMATE 0W-40 OIL? Mobil 1 ==VS== Red Line!

If you track, and if you are doing sub-7.5k OCI, Redline will be better in my experience, although anecdotal. This is specifically in regards to BMW engines, wwhich rely on oil pressure, and cleanliness of the engine, for the VANOS and rockers to function properly, amongst other things. That...

Who actually still uses a synthetic blend?

Personally I don't see the point. Then again, I would not run dyno (1-3) in any of my engines (in sig) simply because I have had better experience with the Grp4 and especially 5 oils.

    Opinions on Synthetic Oil?

I believe that I did state multiple times that it was "my opinion" and "in my experience", and never said that it was to be taken as gospel. After all, what is this site, heck what is a scientific (or pseudoscientific) study if not a collection of experiences analyzed and from which a...

    0W 40--Mobil 1 or Royal Purple?

It's not that it's worse, it's simply that it's not been able to stand up to the same kind of beating as RL. Now, on the street, things are likely different for most drivers, especially if you are wanting extended OCI's in which case M1 would likely serve you as well or better. Sorry if I wasn't...

    Fuel Mileage with Ethanol Added?

Just a note... You can have a vehicle dyno tuned for a specific gas type, and it will take the ethanol content into account, and offset the economy loss. It surprises me that cars don't have specific fuel maps for ethanol gasoline, seeing as pure gas is very rare. With everything else they are...

highway or city driving for adds.

I think that it's beneficial to ensure that the engine sees a variety of condition, is always warmed up fully, and ideally has as little ethanol as possible in the gasoline. I would think that running the engine hard to be beneficial, especially when it comes to removing any deposits anywhere...

Is any additive useful in Direct Injection motors?

Wouldn't something like Seafoam, sprayed in through the throttle throat and via vacuum line into the intake manifold, then left to soak for a while before startup, affect the carbon buildup on the valves? I think that with theccomplexity of the DI injectors, it wouldbe wise to run a KNOWN...

    0W 40--Mobil 1 or Royal Purple?

Yeah, it's the 5w40 marketed as the "Euro" oil, and while I have enough stashed that I haven't bought any in some time, I had just assumed it was reformulated with the rest. As far is that weight in particular goes, it's the only oil I would consider running past MY "comfort zone" in OCI...

    HM oil??

I have seen brand new cars burn as much oil, I mean we're talking about the difference a proper vs improper break in period can make. With that high of mileage, I'd say you are doing darn good. I am FAR from an expert on Chevy motors, but most oil consumption I see comes from coked up rings or...

    Opinions on Synthetic Oil?

I am speaking only to my experiences, and to the cars I've seen and/or worked on. The biggest issues are: A) Extended OCI are economically WORSE based on the ever increasing chances of engine damage, especially in cars that aren't driven at length or driven hard, due to fuel and water dilution...

Beginning of 2nd winter on Redline MTL thoughts...

Next time, try a blend of the RL gear oils. It really does work, and it's actually the "official" method of reducing the chatter from a lightweight flywheel while improving shifter feel by many companies that produce flywheels for BMW.

non-redline GL-4 fluid options for LSD transaxle?

Motul or Redline, based on my experience. I have never liked AMSOIL, and I will never recommend them, but I will also be the first to say that you should never rule something out because of your own, or someone else's, bias. Still, RL is the only thing that has never failed me on the track...

    0W 40--Mobil 1 or Royal Purple?

I just wrote a long, way longer than I intended (rambling) post about my personal experience with mostly Redline, but also RP, in my BMW's. It mainly refers to my competition use, but I use them in every BMW I own and have owned in the past 8 years, including everything in my signature. The...

    Opinions on Synthetic Oil?

When there exists a "regular" oil that can do what Redline (and some Royal Purple mostly HPS/XPR) has done for the cars in my sig, from the nearly stock to the completely built and blown track cars, I would absolutely consider it. I would never run a Dino oil on the track, and the people who I...

    Wheels in the wintertime

You have to take a kinda proactive approach, but the following works, if it didn't i would be out countless money in BBS/Volk/Werk/CCW/J-Line/etc wwheels... You have to clean them properly, which means OFF THE Car, and start with something like Griots wheel cleaner or P21S gel. You can use...

My brother asks me 2009 135i or 2014 Copper Base

A close friend and fellow track rat has grenaded three, yes THREE, transmissions on his C63 AMG, and prior to that his SL65 AMG threw a rod at just 8k miles. The fact that you cannot get a manual transmission in a Benz is enough a deterrent for me, but I have witnessed many more problems with...

    What to do for subwoofers?

Just want to add a few comments... First, with modern speaker efficiency, anything over 10" is sub-bass, which you feel but you can't audibly distinguish between notes. You really don't need two subs for listening, ignore what you see at car shows and stuff, because a single well integrated...

    Blaupunkt car audio opinions?

I have this Pioneer AVIC in my E46 M3 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/GPS-Navigation/AVIC-Z150BH And before I went to a car-puter/audio hybrid in my 328Ci, I had an AVIC from 07 and then upgraded to the newest in 11. Both were flawless, but I hated knowing that I could fit a 9.2"...

My Final Reciever/Speaker Setup - I'm liking it!

I just posted in another thread, but as far as TV's go, Micro Center has the 55LA7400 (LG 55") for $899 which I just bought, as it's second from the top in their lineup, and not only is it $2k less than MSRP, but it is one of the absolute best televisions I've ever calibrated, and I can only...

Samsung or LG smart TV now or in January?

I JUST picked up a brand new LG 55LA7400 from Micro Center for a steal, only $899 and another hundred off since I have a MC credit card. It's a mid year 13 model, and ignoring 4K/OLED, the 2nd highest in their entire lineup. Retail is usually $2200, and MSRP is 2799. If you have a Micro Center...
