    Brake pad shelf life?

Was poking through the garage and found a set of brake pads that I had bought for my girlfriend's car but never got around to putting them on (Akebono ProACT front pads). Still in the box, never opened them up. Looked through my order history and they were bought almost 3 years ago. Have some...

    Post your latest oil change

2003 Accord V6, 167k on engine OUT: Unknown oil, Fram Core filter (parent's car, they took it to WalMart while I was away on vacation). 4k on oil? IN: 5w20 M1 HM & Fram Ultra filter NOTES: The drain plug was surprisingly not over-torqued but the oil filter was on super tight. Had to use a...

    Post your latest oil change

1999 Honda Civic, 222K on oil, 8,8xx miles on 5w30 M1 HM/Fram Ultra filter, IN: 5w30 PYB STAYED: Fram Ultra oil filer OUT: 5w30 M1 HM NOTES: For some reason, I have a mental block on letting oil go 10K. Plan on going about 4-5K on the PYB, getting it out "early" to go 15K on the Fram Ultra...

    low idle after battery change

I've had that happen a few times with my '99 Civic. Once it idled really shaky after replacing the battery and more recently had a hard time starting (had to floor it while cranking) after letting it sit a month with the battery out of it. All other times it's been completely trouble-free but...

Does anyone have any problems with discount tire?

Never had any problems there, been going for over 15+ years. The few times when a wheel stud has been damaged, they've given a voucher to go to a local shop that takes care of the repair. I've never been hassled or swayed toward a certain tire and the rotation/balances are always pretty quick...

Who else is doing an oil change this weekend?

Doing oil changes on my low use Camaro (2,000 miles in the past two years) and an annual oil change on my father's Saturn SL2 that gets a fresh quart replacement every month due to leaks.

    "or yearly" OCI recommendations

Probably just so that you don't forget to do it. On my Camaro, I barely put 2k in the past two years (even though it gets up to temp & highway miles when it does get driven) but I'm starting to get an itch to just do dino oil OCI once a year for the peace of mind of getting fresh oil in every 12...

Iridium plugs to Copper?!?! Has anyone done this?

I just replaced the iridium plugs in my '99 Civic with some basic copper NGKs. They'd be in for a couple years and about 40-50k. Looked OK, gap was a little bigger than spec'd but could have ran them further if I wanted. Coppers in and no difference. Not that I was expecting any.

2nd pair of Kumhos to wear very quickly...

Well, you learn something every day. I always thought if it drove straight and didn't pull, your alignment was OK. I'll have it checked next time I have some free time and def before my next set of tires. Looked up my model of civic and found this: "The Sixth Generation Civic has a wishbone...

2nd pair of Kumhos to wear very quickly...

Well I'm def done with Kumho and this category of tire. These tires were $50 less per tire than other Michelins I was looking at and I see why now. I went with the current Kumhos as they had a higher treadwear rating but the outcome has been about the same. The alignment on the car is straight...

2nd pair of Kumhos to wear very quickly...

Thanks for the quick replies. Thanks for your experience with the 4Xs, makes me feel better that it wasn't just me that got terrible longevity from them. And yes, the current ones are V-rated. Unfortunately her commute, especially with her schedule, she's in traffic both directions...

2nd pair of Kumhos to wear very quickly...

First pair (Kumho 4X) were put on not too long ago and wore down to below 4/32 in less than 18k. This was with me keeping them properly inflated, balanced and rotated (the few times I could during their short lives). Replaced them with Kumho PA31s on now and with approx. 11k on them I was told...

    "Tank on empty" website

In my 18 years of driving, I've never driven the car low enough on fuel to ever see the "low fuel" light. I almost wonder, however, if the light on my Civic is dead as I once put in within a gallon or so of a full tank without the light coming on. My father, however, would regularly drive his...

    Costco Battery Warranty

Went to get in my Jeep that had been sitting for about two weeks and noticed the keyless didn't work. Yup, dead Interstate battery. Since we were going to a restaurant next to Costco, I took it out and threw it in the trunk of my father's car and off on our merry way. Battery failed after just...

who uses a oil filter wrench?

Rarely. In recent changes, the only time I had to was when my parents took their car to a shop and they super overtightened it. Most of the time I just have to contort my body a little to get a little more "oomph" and it comes off. I'm getting older so I anticipate the cup adapter in the near...
