    Doug Hillary, question

I tried 15w50 on one of my BMWs and the car seemed sluggish. I'm sure the protection is there but, based on that experience, I'd rather not use a 50 wt. oil. I think I will go to the 5w40 TDT in the 535 that is due for an oil change (wife's automatic '90) and see how it does. Thanks.

New Goodyear low rolling resistance tire - FuelMax

Oregon's governor wants to MANDATE low rolling resistance tires in this state. Presumably the Tire Police will be inspecting sidewall markings at random and issuing tickets for non compliance.

    Doug Hillary, question

I have two BMWs with M30B35 sixes. This is 60s era technology but they are good engines. Both have high mileage and both run extremely well. It's time to use my Mobil 1 rebate coupon in a couple of weeks and, since you know Mobil 1 well, I will ask you to choose an oil for me. Being on BITOG has...

    Which oil in M52!

I am running M1 0w40 in my 1992 535 and it performs very well. It's probably the wrong oil for the 60s technology M30 engine and I will switch to 5w40 TDT next change for that reason, but I would not hesitate to use it in the 528.

All season w/ good snow traction

Based on personal experience this winter, Bridgestone Potenza G009 is a good choice. I was surprised at how well they did in the ice and snow, especially compared to the helpless Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S on the other car.

Introduction + need help with oil selection

Stick with the 40 or 50 wt. oil in that old Bimmer. The later engines with VANOS and hydraulic lifters would be a more appropriate place for 0w/30 oils.

    When to replace tires?

If you have to think about it this much and you're looking at a couple of long trips, just get new tires. You'll feel much better.

    Any 5W50 users - ?

Both Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil Platinum 5w/50 are sold at my local indie parts house. I've seen the Castrol available almost everywhere around here, the Pennzoil not so much.

Old Brit Sport Car, ZDDP v. Moly question

Since you're in PA you should be able to source Brad Penn 20w/50 racing oil for your car without problem. This oil should be perfect for your application. I recently had a case shipped to me for use in the '58 Porsche project.
