No sir, she didn't like it....

Our Chevy Traverse runs noticeably "more coarse" (hard to describe) on PP and Synpower 5w30 than it does on QS green bottle 5w30. For some reason the conventional QS runs butter smooth.

    Kendall Dexron VI... any good?

Was wondering if anyone has used Kendall's Dexron VI tranny fluid. A buddy of mine can get me a good deal on a case and was wondering. Also, is the Dextron VI spec synthetic? I thought I read somewhere that all Dextron VI formulas are synthetic. Thanks

Castrol GTX in a GM DI engine

According to several websites, GTX appears to have a very good NOAK Volatility percentage. I have read on these forums that the GM direct injection engines should be run with an oil that has a good NOAK #. But, I have also read that these engines are hard on oil. Is GTX stout enough to use in...

Oil Reccomedations for New Chevy Traverse

I own a 2009 Traverse LTZ with the DI engine. I have tried Pennzoil yellow bottle, Pennzoil Platinum, and Valvoline Synpower all in 5w30 flavors. The engine in my Traverse prefers the Synpower 5w30. Believe it or not, the PP produced the most engine noise. With the Synpower it runs butter...

    10w30 or 5w30

Is it acceptable to run 10w30 synthetic in a vehicle that calls for 5w30? I'm planning on running Synpower in my Direct Injected GM SUV. The book calls for 5w30, but the 10w30 seems to be a stronger oil. It appears these DI engines beat up on oil. I live in VA. The winters are on the mild side...

What's the best dino for the new DI Ecotec 2.4l ??

I have a 3.6 DI engine in our Traverse. I have tried Valvoline SynPower 5w30 and Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. The motor is noticeably louder with the PP. It ran butter smooth with the Valvoline Synpower. I have been reading up on some of the better dino oils and I may give GTX a try next oil change...

Pennzoil YB for a DI engine

I appreciate the responses. I'm really torn between paying the money for synthetic or going with dino.

Pennzoil YB for a DI engine

I have read several post regarding GM DI engines. Seems they are tough on motor oil. With a 3k OCI would YB or GTX work ok for this engine? My last oil change I used Valvoline Synpower. Im thinking of going back to dino and shortening the OCI because of what I have read about how these engines...

    Castrol GTX Good? Bad?

Ive been reading many posts here and elsewhere about GTX. Many state its have lost GM approval. Some say they got it back. Some say its great, some say its awful. Any information on the current status of GTX? I'm contemplating moving back to conventional oil strictly because of economics. Its...

Carbon on exhuast - possibly the oil?

I've been hopping around the GM forums (Acadia and Traverse) looking for a reason why my exhaust tips on our Traverse have an unusual amount of carbon build up on the inside of the chrome tips. There are many differnet reasons being entertained on the other forums. I would like for you experts (...

    Any harm going 10w30

Why would GM recommend only 5w30? I have owned many cars in my years. All of which recommended an oil weight range with a chart in the owner's manual for different climates. Recommendations from 5w30 up to 10w40 for my other vehicles. Heck even our new Hyundai has a chart ranging from 5w30 to...

    Any harm going 10w30

GM suggests 5w30 oil for our Traverse. There are several posts that indicate the DI engines in these Lambdas are hard on oil. The 10w oils seem more durable than their 5w counterparts. We live in Virginia, mild winters, mild to hot summers. Would there be any harm in running 10w30 Synpower or PP...

    Are these test accurate?

Good morning. I have been following the GM DI engine threads for the past few weeks. We own a Traverse with a 3.6 DI engine. The agreement here is that this engine may be hard on oil. I have received some great advise from many of you seasoned veterans and it is well appreciated. Many have...

Best oil for new GM Direct Injection Engine

I don't think there was much mpg improvement, but more power with the same mpg. We are getting well above the advertised 17 mpg city. We are getting 19 mpg city. I'm also hoping to get better than the 24 mpg highway rating. This is done with regular 87 unleaded which is great considering the...

Best oil for new GM Direct Injection Engine

Valvoline Synpower has one of the lowest NOACK #s of a 5w30 oil... not counting Amsoil. PP 5w30 has a NOACK # of 12.5 while Synpower 5w30 has a # of 10.5. Synpower's 10w30 # is 8. I think that pretty impressive for a mass produced, supermarket oil. These numbers are according to their...
