Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

Most of my friends are from Louisiana and Texas, and they feel it's the dark side. I feel it's the other way around. Course, I work for the oil industry so I'm dark side no matter what... I'll be a Control Systems Engineer. Basically, I'll help maintain existing control and safety systems, as...

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

When I go, I usually spend about $3k for 8 days, including flights and food for two, as well as hotels, car, motorcycle for a couple of days, and gas for about 1-1.5k miles of driving/riding. D.C. was about the same cost for me.

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

We really love Walnut Creek. Will have to check out Pleasant Hill. If this works out, I'll move over first, just get an apartment, and then get her over. In no hurry to get a house.

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

Yup, that's Nacimiento road. We took it all the way to military reservation. The bike pic is at Rocky Creek bridge. Both were taken on my first trip to California. XS650, I'm jealous.

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

Hey Tom, I'll be sure to look you up next time. We have gone down to Big Sur every trip, except when the fires kept us from making it past a mile or so from Rocky Creek Bridge. PCH between Monterey and San Simeon is our favorite stretch of road. We would live there if we could, but we'd have to...

    18000 mile oil filter changes

I remember the manual for my '68 Impala indicated oil filter changes at every other oil change. I believe my '73 Corolla had the same oil filter interval. I had a tall M1 filter clog on a '93 Olds Ciera clog on a 12k oil change interval, but I was running a K&N air filter at the time. I've...

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

Thanks all. The money will not be an issue. My main concerns are on the job front. I feel pretty safe with the job I'm looking at, but if I should lose it for some reason, I worry that I'd have a hard time finding another. My fiance' is in the mental health care field, with 15 years of...

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

My income, if they come close to my request, would be abou 30% more than I usually make, but working close to 2000 hours a year, rather than 3000. Moving would be included. I'd only be moving myself and my fiance. We've spent about a month in the area, over the past year and are aware of the...

Considering a move to the San Francisco Bay Area

Ok, before the economy made its latest set of swings, I had interviewed with a bunch of companies in the SF Bay area. All of them fell through, but then I got a request from a refinery to come in and interview, at their expense. I went and the interview was great, and I really liked the people...

and then Multi Viscosity Base Oil questions

I often hear that a 10W30 starts life as a 10 grade oil and then VI improvers are added to make it behave like a 30 grade at operating temperature. I'm guessing this was true with Group I oils, but it seems like the current Group II oils, would start out as a higher grade oil and use less of...

A comparison of Mobil 1 and Amsoil EaO oil Filters

I don't know if the M1 EP filter of today is similar to the M1 filter of the late 90s. Back then, I started extending the oil changes in my '93 Ciera. I was running Mobil 1 5W30 and an extended length Mobil 1 filter. The air filter was a K&N in the stock airbox. I was using the Mobil 1 oil...

    2001 GL1800 AutoRx Rinse Coastal 15W40

Mostly highway miles running about ten over the speed limit. I do enjoy full throttle acceleration. Have been running Renewable Lubes's fuel additive, about 25% of the time, in mostly Shell 87. Air filter is Amsoil EAA and oil filter is EaoM. Shifting got a bit notchy in last 500 or so miles. I...
