Top 5 dino oils for gasoline engines ?

Ha, yea, I was just being funny. Of course I am using Havoline but only because so many UOAs with it have come back looking great in a wide variety of engines and applications. I don't know if it is the moly or what but it sure has a strong additive pack. I think the moly in virgin Havoline...

Can you add LC20 at anytime?

That's what I did. I waited until my truck had 3000 miles on it (sufficient brake-in time before using LC20). At that point I put in 5oz of LC20 (4.5qt. sump). I put have put in 1oz every 1000 miles thereafter. I changed out the factory fill last week and added 5oz. Just follow the directions...

What are Oil Life Monitors Based Upon ?

I have a Honda Ridgeline and the OLM has proven very accurate as a gauge for OCIs (according to UOA reports). Do a search on a a thread called "ZDP depletion and GM oil life monitor". It will contain posts from a GM engineer that I believe helped design their OLM. He explains it very well. I...

    LC 20 and synthetic oil

I use Havoline dino 5w20 with LC20 because my oil life monitor indicates service due at about the 6000 mile mark. I will get a UOA to fine tune the LC doseage I need but at 6000 miles and my driving conditions, dino is all I need to use with it. I think it may depend on what you are looking...

M1 5w20 Honda Ridgeline at 6779 oil miles

    A fellow at the Ridgeline forum posted a UOA (Blackstone) on his 2006 truck (20,056 miles on the truck); the MobilOne sample had 6779 miles. What do you all think? Silicon - 17 Aluminum - 5 Chromium - 4 Iron - 21 Lead - 1 Moly - 67 TBN - 2.5 Flashpoint - Fuel % - Antifreeze - 0 Water % -...

M1 5w20 Honda Ridgeline at 6779 oil miles

I'll have to see if I can get more information but what I put up there is all the guy posted at the Ridgeline forum. As far as the temp gauge goes, my Ridgeline warms up rather fast but the gauge itself never goes above 3/8s either.

Question about oil packs in Havoline and other oils.

I looked at the virgin oil tables and found oils showing various "units" of different things they use in their additive packs. For example, Havoline 5w20 shows around 400 "units", or whatever they are called, of moly. I know some good oils do not even have moly as everyone has a different idea...

    FUMOTO VALVE DISCOUNT FOR BITOG

I installed the Fumoto valve with adapter on my Honda this weekend. It was a little difficult to thread and I could not tighten it very much, just snug (probably a good thing). I used the Honda metal washer between pan and adapter and the Fumoto supplied blue washer between adapter and valve...

bumper to bumper traffic and synthetics

Sounds to me to be a prime canidate for LC20/FP60.

    FUMOTO VALVE DISCOUNT FOR BITOG

It is a 2006 Ridgeline V6. If you think the valve will stick out too much you can use a little thicker washer between the pan and adapter and/or between the adapter and valve. That way you can get it snug so that the position of the spring will be away from the road or even straight up. The...

    Amsoil and LC20 = 50,000 mile OCIs

I've been reading some old threads and I read one where Amsoil says its oil can go 25,000 miles before a change is due (in fact, I think they give an engine warranty to that effect). I've also read where LubeControl says using LC20 will prolong your oil (dino oil) to 10,000 miles which is double...

    Resetting oil use %

I have to assume the OLM for the 2006 Odyssey is the same as my 2006 Ridgeline. If it is, the first thing you want to do is bring up the oil life expectancy screen by pressing the select button twice after turning the key to the on positon (motor does not need to be running). Then, press the...

    FUMOTO VALVE DISCOUNT FOR BITOG

I just dumped the factory fill in my 2006 Honda and replaced the plug with a Fumoto valve/adapter. There is no way you are going to accidently release that spring. I would like to hear from anyone that has had that happen. The valve works in any position, even upside down which would be the...

    LC20 and a question

From what I've read around here using LC20/FP60 in a clean engine to start with will keep it clean - no need for RX. As I understand it, RX cleans, LC maintains.

LC in a brand new car?

Yes, these threads do seem to fall off and that is too bad. I say that because usually we have real experts involved in them who deal with these additives day in day out for a living. I have been using LC and FP since the 3000 mile mark on my 2006 Honda Ridgeline. I changed oil yesterday for...

Is it really important to change oil when it is warm?

Well I did it! I took a 10 mile trip to town, had breakfast and then drove back. I waited about half an hour and removed the oil filter, no problemo. I then put the new one on after putting a little oil around the gasket. I also put some oil in the filter just for the heck of it although I heard...

Is it really important to change oil when it is warm?

Okay guys, thanks for the tips. Although it looks like changing the oil cold will not hurt anything, the general feeling seems to be that the oil should be a little warm anyway to achieve the best drain - but not necessarily hot. I think I will drive to the grocery store tomorrow (20 mile...

Havoline conventional + four ball test

It is also a matter of engine type and refinement. Most major brand oils will do a good job in modern engines to 5000 miles. Some engines are better than others. Honda for example has been well known for years for making very good motors and some of their motors only need oil changes once every...
