    Hyundai recommends Quaker State

A lady I know purchased a 2007 Sonata last week. It is the V6 Limited and is loaded. I could not believe what she paid for it (there was $1500 rebate at the time as well). I drove it and I'm here to tell you that if Hyundai keeps building cars like this they'll put everyone out of business. VERY...

    OIl Price - Crazy

I want to know why I can't find Havoline 5w20 cheap anywhere? It is never on sale except every so often at Auto Zone. I see an ad at Freds where Havoline is on sale for 1.49 qt. but only in 5w30 or above. Then I go to Family Dollar and they have every weight of Havoline for 1.89 qt., except 5w20...

Are synthetics really worth the extra bucks?

I agree, depends on engine and driving conditions mostly. Side considerations would be how long an OCI you want to have and how much money you want to spend. I have a 2006 Honda with the VTEC 3.5L motor. You could run this thing on herbal tea. It has an OLM so I go by that and it takes the guess...

Mobil Clean 7500 Honda Accord 2.4L 9130 Miles

Well MadMike, I guess you could call my type of driving "boring". I've been retired 11 years now and don't drive like I use to, or as often. I do try to take the Honda out once a week for a 50 mile trip to town (I live way out in the country). Other than that it only sees country roads and never...

Mobil Clean 7500 Honda Accord 2.4L 9130 Miles

My 2006 Honda has an OLM. If all vehicles had this there would be few debates here about OCI - just change oil when the OLM shows an oil life expectancy of between 15%-0%. This is what my Honda manual says and there is no mention of mileage or severe/normal conditions use because the maintenance...

wich of this two trucks would you buy?

I can't believe people bash the Ridgeline. It is the Truck of the Year everywhere such as Consumer Reports, Motor Trend and including Canadian publications. No truck has ever obtained the five star safety ratings by the government, and, unlike the others, it runs on regular fuel. It is not...

Is our oil the same now as Pre-Katrina?

Hum, interesting about that doughnut thing. Maybe that is a code of sorts; it has to mean something. Maybe the only way to know if formulations are the same now as they were before Katrina (insider information notwithstanding) would be to match VOA results of today's oils with those run Pre Katrina.

Break in, Oil and New Honda Civic Si ADVICE PLEASE

My new Honda has an OLM and suggests 5w20 oil be used. Seems simple to me (for most normal driving conditions) to just change the oil when the OLM tells you to and use the weight oil they tell you to use. As long as you install a quality oil/filter following the OLM you can sleep well at night...

Is our oil the same now as Pre-Katrina?

It has been a little more than a year since the hurricane Katrina hit us. I recall reading here at that time that Post Katrina motor oil would be different than Pre Katrina due to supply shortages of additives or whatever. Some members even felt that the oil we had been using would now be of a...

    303 and leather

I don't know much about leather clothes but I do use 303 on my leather truck seats. There are certain products (very good ones, btw) that "feed" untreated leather such as Leatherique and Lexol. But most modern cars have treated leather. This leather is treated with a vinyl type coating which is...

    Yearly oil change?

My 2006 Honda has about as good an engine as yours although it is a V6 (VTEC 3.5). They don't mention mileage at all but rather tell you to change oil when the oil life monitor tells you which is somewhere between 15%-0% oil life expectancy. The manual says that if you do not drive enough to...

    Quick oil change question...

Like MysticGold04, I too use a Fumoto valve. I have a new Honda and it has an aluminum pan which means big bucks if I strip the plug threads. The Fumoto only cost around $30 and it is there forever. It makes oil changes and taking samples a piece of cake and you never have to worry about crush...

Traveling vehicle what would you buy?

Honda Ridgeline. Perhaps the best transporter passenger vehicle ever built.

    Oil Drain Valve

I've had my Fumoto since January (Honda Ridgeline). I installed it when I drained the factory fill and my OLM has not indicated an oil change is due; however, I expect it to sometime this fall. So, I can't give any advice yet as to how the thing works but I can tell those that are worried about...

GM OLM, how many use it?

My 2006 Honda Ridgeline has an OLM, the first one I ever had in a vehicle. I've read a lot about it, how it calculates the oil life expectancy, what factors are used, how it asesses penalties for things like short trips, etc. It is calibrated for dino rather than synthetic. I use Havoline dino...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

I am keeping Havoline 5w20 in my Honda until the OLM tells me to change. The first time I changed oil the OLM was at 15% oil life expectancy (about 6000 miles). This time it may looks to go a bit further before the OLM reaches 15%. If your UOA comes back in good shape at over 9,000 miles, my...

What is your favorite 20 weight oil, and why?

I purchased a new Honda in May of 2005 and started looking here for oil recommendations and UOA reports. It would appear from everything I've read that most major brand 5w20s will do a great job. Havoline has been highly touted so I went with that. I change oil by the OLM and I have a lot of...

Should I do a UOA on the first batch of oil in a new motor?

How about a UOA on the second fill? Or, should you wait until the car gets to a certain mileage like 10 or 15,000 miles?
