    OCI Opinions

Don't worry about the filter size as long as it is a Honda Filtech or Nippon (stay away from the Honda Fram). Since you don't want to hear about Havoline, use whatever synthetic you want with FP60 and LC20 and OCI by the OLM. If you don't have an OLM, every 7000 miles or so.

My Honda Purchase & Oil Viscosity Use Question.

Honda is one of the most innovative makers of cars in the world. And their track record over the years speaks for itself. I know about CAFE requirements and that may be a consideration sure, but these engineers design, build and test their engines under normal conditions and those we seldom...

    FUMOTO VALVE DISCOUNT FOR BITOG

I bought my Fumoto valve and adapter several months ago. My OLM is just now starting to get to the point where the "service due" notice will light up and so I will install it soon. Hope it is all it is cracked up to be. One good thing I found about this device is that the valve will work in...

    LC and 5w20

Yep, I have a Honda Ridgeline and use LC20 (and FP60). I have noticed a little increase in gas mileage and it runs great - it should, I only have about 5700 miles on it. It still has the factory fill and my OLM shows 20% oil life expectancy. The oil service due notice will come on at 15% so the...

OCI suggestions with 5.3 mile one-way trip

5w20 Havoline with LC20 and FP60 and change when the OLM tells you to change. Get a UOA the next change or two and see if the OLM is telling you the truth.

When is the best time to take a UOA sample?

I am about ready to dump the factory fill in my Honda VTEC-6 engine. My OLM shows 30% oil life expectancy (5300 miles) and I'll change oil with Havoline 5w20 at 6000 miles. I will install a Fumoto valve when I change oil so taking samples should be easy. Should I wait until I change the oil...

Whats the longest safe OCI seen?

I knew a guy in Ohio that had a Chevy truck and put 100,000 miles on it without changing oil except the factory fill (one OCI). I don't know what oil he used but he only topped-off. He did change the filter a few times however. Truck ran great with never a problem when he sold it.

2006 Honda Civic EX - how many miles on factory fill?

I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline and it too has an OLM. The book says nothing about OCIs, including the factory fill. It says that when the OLM calculates an oil life expectancy of 15% you will get a service due notice (I am at 30% with 5200 miles on the truck). At 0% you will get a service past...

    Havoline with LC20 - can't be beat.

best dino for lots of short trips?

You said most of your driving is short trip but that you do take it out on the freeway now and then (once a week maybe?). If that is the case there is nothing to worry about. It is grandma's car that goes a couple miles to church or visit frieds now and then that is at risk. Since the oil will...

Hand tight filter crowd might want to check their filters for winter.

The Nippon filter mentioned by the original poster should have a torque rating and a series of numbers (1-7) evenly spaced around the filter (at least the ones made for Honda do). The torque rating is for those using a torque wrench. If you do not have one, the instructions state to spin the...

    SHORT TRIPS

Use LC20 and FP60 with your oil and gas to help better protect engine parts (which last I read is the function of oil). Have a periodic UOA conducted and be sure and follow your manual or OLM as to change intervals using the car's recommended oil type and weight (you may want to use the manual's...

    Testing GM's Oil Life Monitor

Don't the GM OLMs have an oil life expectancy shown as a percentage? My Honda counts down the life of the oil based on percentages rather than an idiot light that comes on. When the oil life expectancy hits 15% a "service due" notice comes on. When it hits 0%, it says "service past due". I would...

What factor hits oil life expectancy the hardest?

First, I'm not asking the question as it relates to off-road applications, race cars, etc. Rather, what factor do you think adversly impacts on oil the most for every day drivers in their family car? I know these factors would probably fall under "severe" conditions such as short trips; cold...

Would You Run 5w-20 on a Vehicle Earmarked for High Miles ?

Top brand 5w20 (like Havoline/Chevron, Superflo, etc. and LC20 doses per instructions; change according to manual or OLM, if it has one. Best protection you can find for Honda.

    Six month oil change interval

Havoline/Chevron, Superflo, Penz, Motorcraft, etc. every 5000 miles or 7500 miles with LC20. Not sure but I suspect you will get better protection and the same longevity due to the LC20 then you would if you used straight synthetic. They (LC) even claim dino will go 10,000 miles with continuous...

    Toyota-recommended OCI vs. Honda

I only know about the Toyota sludge problem from what I have read. But from that, it seems to make sense to me that they simply want to play it safe and ensure more frequent oil changes to prevent a similar problem. Honda engines are probably a little better as their motors have had legendary...

Has anyone detailed a golf car?

I have a '98 Club Car DS in Red and want to really give it its first good glaze. I use AIO/SG on my Honda but never thought of doing anything to my cart. In fact, I'm not sure what the cart is made of or what kind of finish/paint they use. Does anyone have experience in doing more than just...

Any insight on new Honda reliability?

I have a Ridgeline and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned in 40 years of driving. It is more than a truck, more than a SUV and more than a 5 seat sedan - it is all of these combined. And with innovations that are a Honda trademark. Is it perfect? No, but close. It made me a believer in...

    Best Gasoline. where you buy?

I use mostly Chevron - it is the only station within 10 miles of me. I too feel the engine runs fine using the 87 oct. in my Honda but gas mileage seems to be a tad better whenever I fill up with Shell. In any event, I use FP60 with every tank no matter what gas I buy.
