My warrenty is about up and my plan is to use amsoil series 3000 with a six month oil change interval. Whens would you change the oil and filter, summer/winter or spring/fall? Ive been using synthetics since 9K and oil changes are about 5K, six months with my driving habits will put me at about 7500.

Stick with the Toyota semi-syn and filter, but if you want some oil advice, Then the mobil1 extended performance lasts long with the used Oil Analysis on here (so far after 10,000 miles & waiting until someone reaches 15,000 miles and to do a UOA), Don't forget about regular strength Havoline in which some guys run it for 5000 miles, (I am changing mine at 3,000 because I run a fast car)...Don't know about the German Castrol, but I bet it is just as good or even better than the Haji Mobil1. Just wait for the comments from the other guys :-)

Normally I'm a 6 month recommendation type guy. That works for most 4 season climates, regardless of mileage. In your situation ..and if you're set on 6 months, I might detune my oil selection. If you want to go with mileage, then ... sure, use a synthetic (amsoil 3k) and run it out further. I'd start with 10k and work from there.

Use the amsoil and change once a year. There is no need to change anymore than this.I have done it for many years this way.

Havoline/Chevron, Superflo, Penz, Motorcraft, etc. every 5000 miles or 7500 miles with LC20. Not sure but I suspect you will get better protection and the same longevity due to the LC20 then you would if you used straight synthetic. They (LC) even claim dino will go 10,000 miles with continuous use of LC20.

It would be interesting to see UOAs from someone using oil with and without LC20 just to determine the added benefit in TBN or other oil depletion factors. Also, how dino with LC20 would stack up against straight synthetic in the same engine.

7,500 miles isn't that many miles given the price for a full synthetic. I would either go with a good dino or blend every 5K, or use an extended drain synthetic and do a used oil analysis with TBN on the full syn after 7,500 miles (without draining it) to see what your drain interval should be.

I'd love to see that!

9 months 7500 miles is a good oci for a full synthetic like Mobil 1. Under warranty its 6 months 5000 miles MAX. Don't add anything to the oil!

I feel the S3K is a great oil, probably one of the best Amsoil
products. I also use Amsoil and change every 6 months.
Sure you could go with a less expensive regime but like
you I don't put that many miles on one of our vehicles and
feel that it's more important to change it more frequently
(6mo) cause the car almost never sees the freeway and is
a short trip car.

I'd do a six month OCI, fall/spring, and make my own synth blend. Why not 75% Chevron Supreme in the correct weight, 25% Redline. I understand many off-the-shelf oils mix in some esters for their cleaning effect and to boost performance. I think you would have an EXCELLENT oil at a good price, good for at least the 7500 you project. Do an analysis after the first couple OCIs to verify.

I'd be very interested to see that.

I'm an LC agnostic. Never tried it.
