Thanks, I used to have a 3.4L camaro. I did'nt know the part # because I used to use fram before I saw the mini mopar study. I've also seen the same part # filters look like they were made by different manufacturers when I worked at a quickie lube.
When I was a tech at one of the quickie places, I was the person operating the T-Tech machine. you would not believe how well the fluid cleans up after one of these services.

The standard GM 10 bolt with 3.42 gears. If you really want to know how weak these things are, it broke with 245/55/16 nitto drag radials and a stock Z06 clutch. The car litterally did not even get out of the staging beams, I remember looking up and seeing both the pre-stage and the stage lights...
Patman, I'm currently running a 1998 Z28 on M1 15w50 (second change from 10W30). Seeing heavy dragstip use and changing every 3000 miles. Plan to analyse with the 15W50 and then redline 10W40. The car only gets about 50 miles on it a week, and it will sit until the rear diff. that I destroyed...
It's the chevy Z, sorry for the confussion. I think the ABS motors only need to be cycled if the unit goes dry, if you keep fluid in the master, there should'nt be a problem. Thanks for the ideas, the mighty vac idea sounds like a winner.

It's time to get that old brake fluid out of my 98Z. At the last autocross in the fall the pedal was fading all the way to the floor. I plan to use the two person technique, moving from the farthest wheel from the master to the nearest. Never done this before so any tips or tricks would be...
I'm not really sure what your next step should be. Maybee some of the more experienced members will post up with some advise. Until they do I would just check the fluid level often to make sure it doesn't get low.

What color is the fluid. A dark or black color can be indicitive of burnt fluid, as well as the smell you mentioned. BTW I've never smelled the tranny fluid while driving before. Is it leaking somewhere?

The stigma may have come from down south where I live. Ask any quickie lube place and they will almost always recommend 10w-30 over 5w-30 saying that 5w-30 is "too thin in the summer". How much of this is based in fact is unknown to me, but yes I'll have to agree, everytime I hear a comment...
Soon I will be installing a 12 bolt aftermarket rear diff and axle assembly on my 98 Z. I plan to run a 4.10:1 ratio with a rebuildable auburn style LSD. My question is will the heavier weight gear oils, 100W and above, provide any extra protection on hard dragstip launches, or will the higher...
I went from running 10W-30 mobil 1 to 15w50 mobil 1 and I am getting roughly the same milage (within 1 to 2 mpg). And in a LS1 Z28 thats an easy tradeoff to help reduce piston slap. I am also considering running 0W-40in the truck instead of the 10w30 that I currently use. Hope that helped

This really makes me wonder. Why would GM recommend this? Have they done oil analysis, or engine teardowns after using these intervals? To reset the light on the pickups, turn ignition to run but do not start, press fully and release accelerator three times. However the trailblazers might be...
First off let me say that I change my oil at 3000, 3 months, with mobil 1 10w-30 on my chevy 2500 HD 6L. Usually after I change the oil I will reset the oil life light just so it won't come on and freak me out. Just out of curiosity I did'nt reset it the last couple of times I changed the oil...
my bad, looked at the cross reference and did'nt take into consideration that I already use the longer m1 206 not the m1 107, I just looked up the part # for my car, my bad. I've been debating using the K&N, looks like I may have to try one. Thanks

Ok, here it is. I have a 1998 Z28 with 60,000 miles that is only driven on the weekends. This car sees dragstrip duty about once a month as well as the occasional autocross session. The question is now that I change the oil every 3,000 miles (mobil 1 15W-50) due to sitting all week and then...
As to Molekule's statement about GM limited slip additive. I have found that it does not last very long in early LS1 F-car diffs (some early models use an auburn style diff) either. My Z's diff chattered when I bought it, so I added the FM. About 10,000 miles later it needed another dose of the...
Piston slap in the Z has been lightwith the 10W30 (got lucky) the 15W-50 only seemed to help a little bit, gas mileage seems unaffected. My 2500 HD on the other hand is a heavy slapper, haven't tried anything heavy in it for fear of losing the warranty.
