New Pure 1 info, also PP & Maxlife

I think the Pure 1 is quite restrictive too. Recently when I used the recommended size on my car with thicker (5w-50) oil, I noticed valve clatter for several minutes in the morning until engine warmed up (though wear numbers looked excellent). On my current oil interval I'm using an oversize...

New Pure 1 info, also PP & Maxlife

I called the Purolator filter hotline a few days ago (12/2005) and found they have new test data for the Pure One Oil filter verses when I called them about six months ago (6/2005). I did not ask why there is a change (new test method or new filter design). Multi pass efficiency test (SAE...

    Mobil 1 10W/30 SM/CF, 7,789 Miles (356,607 Total Miles), 1.5L 1993 Civic VX

Great report. Why did you change from 5w-50 to 10w-30 oil? I'm using 5w-50 currently in '93 Metro xfi (244K mi). Thanks.

Syntec 5w-50, 10K miles, Geo Metro

TooSlick, Frankly, I was very suprised at the minimal mileage difference between oil weights. REgarding the GC 0w-30, I do plan to try this in my 2003 Honda Insight (also a 1.0L, 3 cyl) after warranty expires. It's the recommended oil for the US version Insight on Castrol's UK website.

Syntec 5w-50, 10K miles, Geo Metro

ToyotaNSaturn, I'm a little concerned about trying the 15w-50 due to some winter 5*F starts in high desert. I did some crude low temp tests by cooling samples in the freezer and comparing how fast they poured. The 15w-50 was slightly more viscous than the 5w-50 at -4*F, but they seemed pretty...

Syntec 5w-50, 10K miles, Geo Metro

mikemc, I recently tried running Synpower 20w-50 and it seemed to use noticibly less oil than with the Syntec 5w-50. I only ran the 0w-30 for a short time, so not enough info to compare this.

Syntec 5w-50, 10K miles, Geo Metro

Bill, Yes, except for break in all OCI's 10K average ( 8-12K). I think it's using a little less oil since I had the cam and crank oil seals changed on one side at around 200K. No more dripping now.

El Cheapo filter verses STP filter

I've been looking at the same exact filters. Maybe my new post will shed some light. See my post that I just added: Ecore AC vs Valuecraft vs Old AC w/pics Based on what I've observed, it appears that all ecores of the same size are probably identical to each other, regardless of brand or price.

Ecore AC vs Valuecraft vs Old AC w/pics

From what I can tell, the new Ecore version of the AC Delco PF53 ($4) is identical to the Valucraft V3614 ($2). The new Ecore filter media is different from the old AC Delco PF53 media, in form, thickness, and number of pleats. Pleat depth is about the same. These three filters were disassembled...

    Filter Comparison Question

Does anyone know how current this test info is? http://www.smartcar-owner.co.uk/oil_filter.htm It raises some questions, such as: Is the Champion filter the same as USA Mobil 1? Is the Purolator a Pure One or Premium Plus? Who manufactured the Motorcraft? Any thoughts?

    Ecore media differences?

Thanks for the warm welcome TallPaul. The media appears the same to me too. At least from outward appearance. I'm wondering if the Ecore is designed around one specific type of media or if the media can vary by brand requirements as seems to be the case in Grease's version 3 oil filter study...

    Ecore media differences?

Has anyone noticed if all of the new ecore filters have the same exact type of media? (AC Delco vs. STP vs. Supertec vs. Valuecraft)
