Joe Gibbs Racing oil - any exp

We had a bad experience with the gibbs oil in our chevy ZZ4 powered late model race engine(350hp). But we did not use the oil that is available to the consumer(Gibbs does not use the consumer available oil in their race engines, no matter what they tell you!). We ran the 5wt race oil that the...

    Mobil 1 0W40/5W30, 13,478 miles, 2001 BMW 330ci

Look for blue smoke on a cold startup. Your consumption is probably just from worn valve stem seals. If this is the case oil will burn after the engine sits and when engine braking-decelleration. Extensive highway miles will show low consumption and short trips-spirited driving will show more.

What is the GC OCI Interval?

I had been wondering the samething as I had been running GC in my Nissan titan. At the 8K mile mark valve train noise got to the point that I could no longer ignore. Through out the run I also had to add 1 qt. of makeup oil. Went back to Mobil 0w-40 no more valve train noise and doesn't burn a...

2-stroke oil for my Kawasaki Ultra 150 Jet Ski (Amsoil, Redline, or what?)

I've had awesome results running Ipone oil in my snowmobiles. Ipone is api-tc certified, has the best exhaust aroma, smells like strawberries. Is a full synth, is biodegradable, leaves power valve completely clean, simply awesome stuff. I've run everything in my sleds, Klotz, intercepter...

my first oil analysis on my Titan...

Nice report, but every Titan UOA out there is outstanding. I should have a GC 0w-30 report from my Titan soon. 40 weight is the highest recommended weight in the manual so warranty issue's could be a problem should an issue arrise. I'm guessing your oil pressure guage is probably pegged all the...

    RX8 Sixth oil sample

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it a big NO NO to run synthetic in a rotary engine. I know it was with the 13B. Also I would be concerned if you did not burn any oil, there supposed to burn 1 qt every 2k miles by design, I believe the redline is preventing this from happening, which is not good.

Seems like the Japanese UOA's usually show higher wear metals?

Compare the Nissan Titan UOA's vs. the American V8's, the Nissan shows less wear even without being fully broken in. Also there is no piston slap(GM) or lack of power(Ford) associated with some dom. V8's, that after all are not really domestic at all since some are made in Mexico(Dodge hemi). I...

    Delvac 1 5w40, 5k miles, ‘96 Lexus LX450 4.5L IFZ-FE ( FZJ-80 Toyota Land Cruiser)

I know my toyota 7M-GTE inline 6 in my supra loves mobil 1 15w-50, I've been waiting for something to blow up so I can justify an uprgrade, problem is it keeps taking everything I throw at it. If your in a warm climate I would not hesitate to to use it.

    Infiniti G35 TwinTurbo M1 10w30 (+1qt of M115w50 make-up)

Man that sux. I've been hearing the VQ35 doesn't live long when heavily modded. Never understood Nissan's obsession with the V6 in the american market when they had the RB26dett L6 oversea's that will handle pretty much everything you throw at it. Hope everything works out for you at least now...

    '02 Subaru WRX Redline 10w30

I don't understand the excitement over this oil. TBN of 2.3 with only 5k miles? Also I have seen several reports with more miles and much less bearing wear. Enlighten me I don't get it espcially when you consider the cost of this oil.

    94 Supra TT Oil Results

The VP red we ran in it last summer was leaded, hence the nice white coating on the tail pipe. This batch of oil replaced the oil that was in it at that time. Since you can't totally remove all the oil in a single change there would have been some left behind. There's your high lead reading, not...

    94 Supra TT Oil Results

Justin, how many oil changes has there been since you ran race gas. I know we ran some VP red thru it last summer, and then the car sat for a long time. So I'm guessing 1 oil change. I'm bettin that where your lead is comming from. There's no way that engine is chewing up the bearings. I...

    Worst gas mileage with GC

I wouldn't sweat 10k on GC in a corolla. Since day 1 with our commuter civic, a 96 DX i've run mobil 1 5w-30 and have never changed it under the 10k mile mark. The car now has 170k, at 160k passed a compression test with flying colors, basically performed it for sh#ts and giggles. Also at the...

    UAO Redline ATF

I've always heard due to the poor design of the mopar auto's to only use thier atf fluid. Basically they had to design the fluid around the tranny so it would last. I do know the warrenty is totally voided when something other than the mopar atf is used, your playing with fire there.

    Mobil 1 0W-40 - 5517 miles - 04 Titan

Great report. I just picked up 7qts of GC 0w-30 for my titan and will be performing UOA's. I've got a lot less miles though so it will be difficult to compare. Looks like the intake did just as good if not a better job than the stock airbox which is great to see, espcially considering the h.p...

Best synthetic to quiet down valvetrain

The best way I've found to isolate the location of engine noise is to use a large screwdriver as a stethoscope, put your ear to the plastic handle and tip to wherever, works good, great way to verify rod knock, injector, valvetrain noise etc.

Less oil consumption with THINNER oil?

My old 98 V6 4 runner was the same way, never burned a drop using mobil 1 5w-30, but burned a qt. of mobil 1 10w-30 in 5k miles, changed back to 5w and no more consumption.

    Amsoil 5w30 '02 TrailBlazer 24899 miles

I'd say BMW makes the best natrually aspirated Inline-6, but there I-6's don't hold a candle to Nissans RB26dett used in the R34 skyline GTR or Toyota's 2JZ-GTE used in the 4th generation Supra Turbo. One things for sure though, I-6's are still the best engine configuration except for of course...

3000GT VR4 twin turbo oil? GC or M1???

I've run mobil 1 15w-50 in my modified 89 toy. supra turbo since i got the car 10 years ago with 75k miles on it. The turbo has been pushing 2x the stock boost level since 80k, the turbo has never been rebuilt and still is within spec with 138k miles and 15 years of age. Not to shabby, I perfer...
