Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

Yeah, I need to consider that. I do have a hookup at a Lexus dealership, but only while he works there as a service manager. He hooks me up on Toyota parts and even the one time my 4Runner needed timing belt and all that- he saved me a ton. Still, you make a good point. I need to seriously...

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

I asked about that. He said they provide some paperwork that enables the motor vehicle place to give me a title. I think they don't have the original title, as with many impounded vehicles. This is the first time I am looking at a vehicle on an impound lot, so I don;t know much about it. I will...

Buying a used Lexus RX300 (Oil gelling question)

A friend in need needs a reliable and slightly roomy vehicle. Her Honda is on its last legs and becoming a money-pit. She cannot afford a new vehicle, and being all the "family" she has, I'd like to help her a bit. I have been helping her look for good used Forester, Outbacks, Rav4s, and CRvs...

Ultra... Take THAT Pennzoil - w/pics

Great score! I'm still bitter that I can't find SN PU easily, but in my attempt to not buy Amsoil, I managed to collect 24 bottles. Once that is over, I'll prob stick with QS UD.

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

Good idea. I'll check if it meets that Chrysler spec. I am under warranty, so it's one less issue to worry about if something goes wrong.

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

I am aware- that is why I went for the 2012...the 2011 engine was so weak. I was driving/testing some 4.0s in the final stages of my shopping process and eliminated the 3.8s, but ended up preferring the 3.6 and so bought a new one. It isn't bad...could use more torque but with my high gearing...

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

The 2012 calls for 5W-30, not 5W-20. The 2011 called for 5W-20. Not sure about the 2013, though it has the same motor as the 2012.

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

That Synpower may also be a good option. I hear it has very good anti-wear properties. On the Jeep, I am doing 5,000-6,000 mile OCIs for now, so 5,000 is not a problem. The 4Runner is so easy on oil that I can go 10,000 but at 7,000, I get a bit edgy and change it. It must be that lazy V8 and...

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

I am not a fan of long OCI oils (15K-25K) because the oil still gets dirty, though they must have strong detergents and anti-wear add packs. I change at 8K-10K or so, and just prefer strong base stocks with good add packs for that OCI or slightly more. PU was perfect for that and apparently very...

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

Thanks, some good options here. I would like to double-check the Chrysler spec on whatever I use- just covering all bases since I am under warranty. As far as Amsoil goes, is the base stock and add pack as good as the PU? Not sure what the UOAs have shown for that, but the PU was fantastic. Will...

Out of Penn Ultra...now what for my Wrangler 3.6?

I finally find a perfect oil for my Jeep and it is essentially (for all practical purposes) discontinued. is there another oil that is as good and clean? Should I switch to Penn Platinum or is there a better oil that meets the Chrysler spec? I do go offroad and things get pretty hot at altitude...

Chrysler changes the oil spec for 2013

As mentioned, the 2012 calls for 5W30. I am sure the 5W20 will be fine (though I'd prefer to use 5W30 (and especially from May-November) in the 2012. The 2013 has the same engine so I doubt there will be any difference that calls for different oil. Still, I will continue with Chrysler-spec 5W30...

2012 3.6L Wrangler Pentastar- Dino only?

Almost 4,000 miles. Still runs great and had no dreaded ticking or anything. All I have done is use the springs from a 4-door to give it a bit higher stance (worked perfectly- and not too stiff either). Love the Jeep, though my V8 4Runner is hard to sell. That may be my favorite engine ever.

Honda releases first photos of redone, shorter 201

If I were to buy a sedan (I probably never will...too impractical for me) it would probably be the new Accord.

    Oil recommendation for Toyotas

I use German Castrol 0W30. I have used Pennzoil Platinum and all work well, though my 4Runner is a V8 that is ridiculously easy on oil. So basically, any good oil will be as good as another in an engine easy on oil. My Camry did well on all as well. It was pretty easy on oil too. My Subaru is a...

Any 3.6L Pentastar owners out there?

2012 Pentastar in a Wrangler here, with 3,700 miles. No ticking yet. I must admit I am mildly paranoid though. I was going to sell my 4Runner but is is babied and pristine, and they don't make the V8 anymore, so I think I will hang on to it till I am sure my Jeep is not ticking. Then again, it...

    how about castrol syntec

It probably is. It is hard for me to tell but I'll go check it out. I just need 4-5 bottles to complete a series of three oil changes on my 4Runner (~7.5 quarts per change, if I remember correctly). I am a bit short and I hate to waste oil or mix oil.

    how about castrol syntec

Is there no 0W30 (GC) anymore? I see none around- just Syntec 5w30.

Shooting at the Eaton Centre in Toronto

Cannot stand malls. Between avoiding malls, convenience stores, and liquor stores, I increase my mortality probability significantly.

    Do not do this.

Yeah, the future of America is very secure with high-level genes like this.
